I usually do not write many reviews - and have never written a poor review in my life. However, I really do feel that others need to know about what occurred at Naxian Utopia during our stay.
Firstly, it was nice to stay in a place with it's own private swimming pool, the place was clean and the communal swimming nice and the breakfast as well, and the staff were courteous.
The hotel does not have it's own restaurant or services to order food or drinks from, so you need to do so currently from Santana beach club, for which they provide a menu. However, this was not a problem.
However, on the 4th night of our stay, after coming back from Naxos Town, we were charged and attacked by 2 huge Rottweiler dogs in the parking lot. Luckily my husband managed to kick sand/dirt from the ground in their faces and they ran off. One of the tourists in the suites came out, after likely hearing the noise, and then ran back into the suites, obviously scared about the dogs. My husband had to throw me in the car where we subsequently hid for around 1 hour. The dogs continued to roam the complex and were attacking at our car. I called the hotel and they noted that they were the dogs from the neighbouring residence and said they would ask the owner to take the dogs back. We asked for a call back once this could be confirmed, however on the call back they could not confirm that both dogs had been taken back and this required more waiting and a further call back.
Whilst the staff from the hotel called and apologised for the situation, they replied that they were aware of the dogs from the neighbours, but that it was not their fault. It IS their fault if the parking lot is open, that they know that tourists are visiting, will be staying at the hotel and they do NOT make people aware of the dogs or of the fact that they can attack and charge at you and cannot predict when they will be out. If we had had a small child, this child could have easily been attacked and murdered. I find this unacceptable for any hotel, and a hotel where we paid 300+ euros per night to be staying at - total 1200 euros.
The way in which they acted or reasoned what had happened was unacceptable - people can be seriously injured here, and there was no discussion about what they would change for the better in the future. I am just glad that no-one has been hurt yet, but there need to be serious modifications made to this complex in order to make it a safe place for people, not only children, but adults as well.
Talking with the staff the day after a sleepless night, they were all obviously aware of the dogs, but they did not let guests know about them. I would be more understanding if they were stray dogs, whom the hotel could have less control over. However, they were known to the hotel. We have been traumatised by the situation and left a night early as we were too scared to stay at the hotel again. I really want everyone to reconsider staying here until the issue is resolved and they can guarantee...
Read moreI was looking at some of the older reviews and have to say, this one from Oct '23 was spot on for our visit last week (TA translation from French). We prob should have read if before we went:|"Very nice villa but nothing to store your clothes except hangers...you open your suitcase in the living room... Noisy atmosphere, you can hear the neighbors very (too) well... Inside, the fridge also makes noise, the cupboard is lit, even at night, the curtains are not sufficiently blackouts, the bed did not have a box spring, in short difficult nights, waking up very early.... the swimming pool is too cold to be used. And I forget the soap and the towel that we don't know where to put in the tiny bathroom. On the other hand, the breakfast and the lady who takes care of it are top notch!"||so, PROS: large space with private pool that will likely warm up nicely from the end of June but too cold to use during first week of June '25. Free wi-fi, free parking, pleasant staff, great breakfast. Shower with VERY hot water right away, just limited bathroom/shower space for toiletries. Ours was a 2-floor unit, which was nice for separate bedrooms. Large couch in LR but was used purely as a shelf for all our luggage since no drawers/very limited in-BR shelving so we didn't use the LR for group relaxation. There's a stove but didn't use it. ||CONS: 15 min walk on a death-defying road that thinks itself a highway to get to closest town with pretty average-at-best food choices (not the main town). We were encouraged to walk to town but I would not recommend it especially with kids. Windy, dark and local drivers are practicing for the Indy 500. Signage is poor - there's a sign on the road but when you go down the end of it, there are several buildings and no sign to say which to go to although the one that says Warning! Dog! with a pic of a Rottweiler is to be believed and, thankfully, not the right one. You'll see/hear them when you go for your car. Thankfully, they are behind a whole lot of fence bc they seem to come from the Damian movie, and I like dogs so that's saying a lot. Biggest negative is no shelves/drawers/dressers for a place that most will prb use for a longer stay (since it's...
