We decided to try a hotel situated on the foothills of the mountain that dominates the scenery of Kamari. Antinea is one such hotel. We immediately could appreciate the advantage of doing this. It is a relatively calm and peaceful experience that allows you to truly relax and unwind.||But I must mention an important point: You will exercise your lungs on every walk back to the hotel! It is a fairly steep walk from the beach front. Doing this at any time between 9am and 6pm will also be a hot and sweaty experience!|We embraced this fact and started each day by taking a walk around the village at around sunrise. It was relatively cool and fresh and we could experience the wonderful sunrise. On return to the hotel, we were good and ready for the excellent breakfast that Antinea offers. This quickly became our daily routine and allowed us to feel less "guilty" about eating a full and varied breakfast!||If you are put off by the location's elevation above the village, you should consider renting a scooter/ATV/car. There is parking behind the hotel.||The hotel itself, is wonderfully "assymetric"! Each room has an almost unique aspect | and vantage point. We chose a "simple" suite with a balcony only. The gem for us was the second pool located right next to our room. This pool is much smaller than the main one but was perfect for the frequent dips to cool off. We were often the only people there and at times felt like it was our own private pool!! We, of course, were just lucky as the "secret" soon comes out and other guests discover this too! There are only six sunbeds around this pool and only two umbrellas, so get here early to claim your sunbeds! The main pool and bar area is lovely too and probably suits most people who want to enjoy a pool day with closeness to the bar for refreshments.||Our room was clean, comfortable and everything worked as expected. The wifi was the best we have experienced in any hotel on Santorini. We missed a kettle to make tea/coffee. The housekeeping was very good.|Small criticism of the water pressure which could vary from ok to almost non-existant.||The evening restaurant was pretty good but fairly limited. I rarely saw more than one or two couples eating there so definitely good for a quiet and "cozy" meal.||The day bar service is very good and friendly. All the staff here work hard to make your stay enjoyable. I always like to engage with the staff as most appreciate this.||For those who love walking/hiking, Antinea is perfectly located for a couple of quite challenging walks up the Mesa Vuono mountain to visit Ancient Thira or walk to Perissa. There is also a natural water spring half way up the mountain right above the hotel.||All in all, Antinea deserves its rating and we loved out stay here. It may not be for everyone though, for the reasons I have...
Read moreStayed here for 10 days. Room is adequate, no curtains or blackout blinds so very light in the room very early! Room dated, but, it’s only for sleeping in on this beautiful island! Breakfast is very good, lots of choice, very friendly staff. Pool is excellent, not busy, and people tend to not reserve sun beds. You can also always find shade at the pool throughout the day. Bar a little pricey as is the restaurant. We only ate there on our first night. Black Stones restaurant is the best for food in Kamari, which is down the hill. Yes, the hill! The hotel is at the base of the small mountain which means a 300m or so walk up a steep hill every evening when coming back from Kamari. If you’re fat, unhealthy or fitness shy (couch potato!) this may not be the hotel for you (as every room has also got steps to them). We loved the walk back to burn off a few of those beer calories and enjoyed the uphill burn! At the back of the hotel there is also a well maintained track to the top of the mountain. At approx 1800hrs when the sun goes behind the mountain (and the track in the shade) it makes for some good cardio training with impressive views of Kamari. Overall hotel rooms dated, but the friendly staff, uncrowded pool and breakfast choices make it a worthwhile destination. Not recommended for the unfit, fat...
Read moreBooked a private pool and on arrival we were told it wasnt available for a few days but the manager gave us a room with indoor jacuzzi which wasnt really any good as my partner was heavily pregnant BUT they also offered us free spa and massages along with free meals during our full stay so it did help. Jacuzzi room had the windows screwed shut which was total pointless as every other room had the windows open even the high up rooms with jacuzzis. The room with pool 403 im sure was perfect more modern and fresh and a nice deep pool,as its on the hillside the sun isnt around for long. Staff are very friendly and helpfull bar snacks and food all great, half board menu very limited, breakfast was fine. Best hiring a Smart car for 2 days at €70 than a death trap buggy for €88 for 1 day. Overall a clean tidy hotel but more a 3☆
Kamari 95% bars and food great if all you want to do is eat and drink not many shops, markets etc and not great for children The beachfront walkway is cobble like so the mrs can forget the wedges and high footwear
Shop around and buy drinks from the shop and take them to your room as mini bar is expensive. Dont rush to get to the airport on your return home as its a...
