Taverna Danas — Restaurant in Municipality of Thira

I can only rate this restuarant as 5 stars but if could give it 100 stars i would. This restuarant you should definitely visit on your stay in Kamari. We visited Danas 3 times during our stay in Kamari as we found it was the best food in kamari and across the Island of Santorini. It has great choice on menu and great value for money. The family who run this restaurant are so lovely and friendly, always found time to chat and told us some of the tales and history of the island. We was made to feel like we were friends of the family. They do the best mixed souvlaki in Santorini and I tried this in many places. It is so hard to recommend a choice of meal as all the starters and main dishes we had was delicous and the best we ate in Kamari. When our holiday came to an end the family presented us with a beautiful gift and a hug on our last night. I was sad to leave the beautiful Island of Santorini and even more sad that it was our last night to be eating at Danas and seeing the family but i will definitely be returning to Santorini for a holiday again where I will definitely return to eat at Danas as my first choice of restuarant. We had here 4 dinners during our one week stay in Kamari. The restaurant is not so close to the beach which is rather an advantage. Not crowded no loud pop music but good atmosphere on a beautiful terrace. The staff were very friendly. The foods we tried were tasty and well served. Our favourites were the moussaka, the mixed grill for two (perhaps not enough for two men but for a couple was perfect), baklava and lamb kleftiko. The chef’s baklava was a little disappointing for us. The serving was beautiful but we did not like the strawberry ice cream. Every time we got a small present at the end of the dinner (melon, apple pie with ice cream or masticha liquoer) that was really kind of them. The prices were average in Kamari. This is really traditional Greek food! If you want to taste something very fresh this is right place to go. Fishes are caught by owners. Seafood is the best we tried in Kalmari. I recommend seafood pasta with a lot of pieces inside. We also tried Greek salad (super!), fish grill mix for 2 (very good but might be bigger) and souvlaki (mix is much better then pork). Moussaka also one of the best in Greece. In general food is delicious but might have more additions like salads or potatoes as sometimes it’s not enough to be full and you must order something additionally to the main dish.
