We stayed for a week at the El Greco Resort and Spa and we really enjoyed our stay. ||||The hotel is in a great location, walking distance to Fira with all the shops, bars and restaurants. The hotel is very quiet with many pools to relax around. The sun loungers are really comfortable with thick mattresses. There seemed to be some available no matter what the time of day. The pools were very cold but once you were swimming you soon got used to it. ||||We were half board and enjoyed the food, although there wasn't a massive selection everything we ate was really tasty. The only thing I would say in is the hot food at breakfast was luke warm. You have a choice of two restaurants for breakfast. You get a large bottle of water with your evening meal free of charge. ||||We ate at the pool bar on a few occasions and the food was lovely. Drinks were expensive but the service was always good.||||We stayed in room 600B overlooking one of the pools, it was on the second floor away from the road, I did email the hotel beforehand with this request. Our room was a superior room and we thought it was spacious. Lovely shower, hairdryer was ok to use, comfortable bed, large fridge and ample wardrobe space. The room was very light and airy. The cleaner came every day. Two free bottles of water on arrival in the fridge but then you had to get your own. You cannot drink the tap water.||||I used the hotel gym and found it to he very modern with good facilities. I also ran to the town in Fira but it was really hilly with lots of steps. Quite a challenge. ||||We got the local bus to Oia, 2 euros per person for one way. Drops you right in the centre. The bus station is just down the road from the hotel. I asked at reception for a timetable. It is worth checking online for the cruise ships schedule and going on quieter days. We went first thing and by lunch time it was packed, even when there weren't as many cruise ships scheduled that day. It is a beautiful place to visit. ||||The sunset from Fira in the town was amazing to see each evening. I would recommend flat shoes or trainers for walking about though. Lots of cobbled streets and steep steps everywhere. ||||Try the local bakeries, everything we tried was delicious.||||We would definitely return to this hotel, it was fantastic and relaxing from...
Read moreThe location of this hotel is great. Lovely grounds and pools. The rooms are pathetic. Our towels, pillows and bedding and beds were awful. I can't believe they even use them. When we checked in we were told not to drink the water, yet we were not offered any water. How inconvenient. We were told to walk into town and we could purchase water at the super market. How nice. After flying and traveling to Santorini we are given that sort of welcome. It really put me off. Then, when I walked into my room, I was crushed. This hotel is called a resort and rated 4 stars! I was very disappointed. The pillows were so old and looked like they had never been replaced since the hotel opened in 1996. Also, they were no covers on the pillows, just a pillowcase. Honestly, it had seen better days as well. The linen was scratchy and discolored. The bed were two twin beds pushed together and the sheets didn't fit well. The duvet was so old and lumpy. I would hardly call this resort quality. The room was pathetic in every way. Our balcony was nice, but wasn't private. The other guests on our floor could look at us while we were out there. Also, the 2 chairs were rusty and very uncomfortable. We also had problems with our door. We walked back and forth to reception 3 times . Finally, we were given a ride down to our room and the agent tried to open the door as well. Finally, he kicks in the door and it opens! Just unreal. Also. The small refrigerator was very noisy. The AC worked well, thank God for that, since it was quite hot. The maid service was good.. The kept the room tidy and clean. They did their best to accommodate us if we needed a few more time before they wanted to clean our room. I had a hot stone massage and it was awesome! Niki was amazing. The spa is amazing and I would give it 5 stars! Santorini is a beautiful Island and the people are very kind...
Read moreLots of positives: great location, just 10 min walk from the centre and from the bus station from where its very easy and cheap to visit Oia, Kamari, Perissa etc The staff are very friendly, polite and helpful. Good design of 2 storey blocks built around several different pools so never felt very busy. We were surprised when staff said the hotel was full, certainly didn't seem it. Absolutely no need to reserve sunbeds but unfortunately there are always some embarrassing Brits who have to stake their place as soon as they get up 🙄 Very quiet and relaxing as only the pool near the bar/restaurant has music playing. Our room was modern, spacious and well equipped.and we slept really well. The only negative was the breakfast which was surprisingly poor for a hotel of this standard and price bracket. Exactly the same limited offer in both restaurants day after day. We were disappointed by the small selection of fresh fruit, only 2 types of bread to choose from and supposedly fried eggs that looked like silicone, like the ones you get in a child's playset. In the whole week I only saw 2 people take one and after one bite left the rest which is probably why the dish never needed to be refilled, there must be so much waste. Similarly the scrambled egg, and the omelette had the texture of a loofah. This could be simply rectified by having someone cooking eggs to order as most hotels do as standard these days but when I asked the waiting staff if I could order fresh eggs they just said "no its not possible " . But overall a very good, comfortable and practical option if you want to stay in Fira without splashing out on one of the many seaview luxury suites.|Warning - at check in you will asked to pay a hotel tax of €10 per room per night. Apparently this happens everywhere...
