My wife and I just returned from a weeks stay at Gold Suites. We were in a Junior Suite which is located in Imerovigli along the main path from Fira to Oia. This allows for a lot of people walking by as you sit out on your terrace. Unlike some of the other hotels the terrace is elevated so it really isn't intrusive to your total experience. There is the occasional person who will turn and look if you are out there talking. The suite was excellent, with a nice size bathroom, sleeping area and lounge/dining area.||There was plenty of space to unpack and store your belongings. Each morning you can have breakfast served on the terrace overlooking the AMAZING view from this wonderful location. I am not sure if the views from the other rooms would make any difference since they are all along the front with a terrace. I assume they are just larger with one having a pool and others with a hot tub. The pool, bar and dining area were one level up from us and provided the same AMAZING view when either drinking at the bar, dining or lounging at the pool. The best part of this hotel, other than the view, are the staff. They are so friendly and accommodating without being over the top. Everything here is really laid back and relaxing. Dmitrius at the bar, who was also the dining waiter and would bring down the breakfast in the morning was fantastic. Just a really nice person that you could sit and have an interesting conversation with. The hotel is located right at the end of a road with the reception area at street level. Your cases are taken down and up to your room so there is no need to carry them yourself. This would be difficult since the steps are very steep and numerous down to the Junior Suite level. Although there are many other hotels that are further away from the central drop off point. So location of this hotel was excellent as well. The hotel reception staff arranged dining reservations for us on several occasions and each did not disappoint. They also arranged a sailing excursion, which was excellent and a rental car, which was very easy and very inexpensive ! You need to be aware of the small roads and large trucks and buses that share the road with you if you plan to hire a car and drive. Another thing my wife and I did was hike the path from Imerovigli to Oia which is about 6 miles of extreme ups and downs but worth it for the experience and the other AMAZING views. You can have a cold beer at one of the many restaurants when you reach Oia. Santorini is a very busy island, with cruise ships and many hotels. Imerovigli is not as crowded and a perfect spot if your just looking to chill, enjoy the views, food and people. Both Oia and Fira are very close if you want more action during the day and then return to the quiet when the sun goes down. My wife and I have always wanted to visit Santorini and Gold Suites made this the perfect trip. We were not disappointed at any moment of this AMAZING experience. If you are thinking of traveling to Santorini and want a more laid back experience, don't listen to any of the several bad reviews, listen to the numerous rave reviews and stay at Gold Suites in Imerovigli you won't be...
Read moreAll the hotels in Imeroviglu are very small with a boutique vibe, small swimming pools no large restaurant area for breakfast etc so just be aware of that when you’re booking. All the hotels are set into the hill and getting to them involves a lot of stairs etc so the space is limited and the hotels are all quite small. Having said that I have travelled a lot and honestly the views of caldera (The premium view of the island that’s in all of the postcards / insta and online images-the view that you pay a premium for) are absolutely breathtaking and I have seen nothing like it. The mornings and the sunsets are absolutely stunning and you definitely pay a premium for this view. We stayed in a superior room with a hot tub which really makes the experience special because you can enjoy the incredible view from the privacy of your own balcony with room service in the hot tub and have your own private sunset viewing. These type of hotels like Gold Suites are really created for a private moment in a group or with a partner to enjoy your surroundings and the view rather than the hotel itself. They are very small and private and quiet. We went in September and the area around the hotel itself was very quiet at night. The next night we went to fira for dinner which was lively and fun.
The pool area was great, it had a bar, and the food we had there for lunch one day was actually very good. The breakfast food however was not great, it didn’t taste very fresh, the bacon was chewy and tasted like it had been cooked a while ago, however it was served on a balcony with all the trimmings coffee, shakes, orange juice, fresh fruit etc which was fresh and as a guest you can have anything you wanted so maybe it was just the choice of food that we got. The service was good but they are strict with check-in times and there was someone there complaining about the service they had received when we arrived. This made us a bit wary but in actual fact we have nothing to complain about. We stayed just one night. They helped us rent quad bikes which were reasonably priced. They also helped us book our airport taxis which was €60 for a transfer. It seems expensive but I think it might be quite similar everywhere, we did get a transfer on the way to the hotel in a minibus with other guests and it took us over two hours to get to our hotel and was half the price but I think that was not worth it personally. Overall I would recommend the hotel but we did only...
Read moreThe only nice thing about this hotel is the view and pool (which you get in most places in Santorini). For the price you pay you receive sub par service and almost feel like a nuisance to the staff. Due to COVID they have slots for breakfast and as we were a group of 5 they apparently couldn’t accommodate us at the same time so we couldn’t eat breakfast together. Further to this don’t expect your breakfast on time. The first day it was 30 mins late after being forced to take the 11am time slot - we called reception and they said it will be with us shortly. The next day it was late again and we called reception and apparently they had ‘changed their policy so breakfast was in a 30 minute time slot now instead of a set time’ which was very convenient as it was over 30 minutes late. On our checking out day they said they would have breakfast ready for 10:15 for checkout at 11. We call at 11 and ask where it is and apparently there had been a power cut even though none of us had experienced any issues with our devices charging. Also the food is not great (clearly microwaved after precooking & omelettes & pancakes are solid is some parts). We asked if we could have a delayed checkout as our flight was at 7pm and they weren’t using the rooms and they wanted to charge €250 for the use of 1 room for 5 hours! Madness! So we just hung around the pool and used a loo instead. They also only use 1 taxi man who they definitely use to rip off tourists, hike the price up and take a cut. They charged €50 for an airport transfer and when we asked a different taxi they said €25. Very fishy that the hotel suggests a higher price and also the taxi driver had an attitude when we told him he was driving to the wrong place after telling him we wanted to go to ancient Thera numerous times. Finally they try and pretend the water in the room is complimentary which is not the case - nothing is complimentary! The room is not clean at all as well and not COVID safe - my sister washed mould off her shower which came off easily proving they don’t clean properly. Overall you could overlook small things if the price was lower but they charge a crazy amount for below par service. I would not...
