Small boutique hotel in FiroStefani, a nice area of Santorini (between Oia and Fira). We stayed in the room Penelope (3rd level from bottom), just overlooking the pool and with just one other room to our right (ie while we have our own outdoor porch / table, it wasn't as exclusive (ie it can still be accessed by other guests if they want) as what other rooms have e.g. private balconies or outdoor porch. However it still offered solid unblocked views of small infinity pool and also the Caldera region (where cruise ships dock and amazing sunset can be seen directly from your bed.. literally with doors open). Hotel wise, i feel this is more suited for honeymooners, and not exactly a good place for kids / elderly due to 1) lack of lift (heavy luggage not advisable), 2) numerous stairs to climb to get to anywhere, 3) slippery floors when wet (especially in the room), 4) room facilities were more aesthetic in nature (eg fancy open air cupboard, and lack of hanging areas otherwise. Hotel staff were very warm and friendly. Breakfast had to be decided the day before via paper menu eg time / type of breakfast, indoor / outdoor etc, which was to be handed to reception before end of day. The Oia bus stops next to a church near to hotel (4min walk), as will taxis, and you will need to walk the rest of the way. For hikers out there, hotel is great starting point for solid 3.5h hike to Oia (advise to start earlySmall boutique hotel in FiroStefani, a nice area of Santorini (between Oia and Fira). For hikers out there, hotel is great starting point for solid 3.5h hike to Oia (start early at 7am to avoid strong sun), or pay EUR1.80 to take the bus (30min interval). We had a super early flight out, staff was helpful to pack some sandwiches / fruits for us the night before, and also help arrange for airport transfer by hotel car, around EUR 35 vs taxi EUR30). We feel Santorini is too touristy for a return trip, and for non-drivers, it is too easy to get ripped off by taxis that don't want to go by meter, and local buses that don't quite follow schedules. In short, be prepared to pay dearly...
Read moreCannot recommend Homeric Poems highly enough, it is everything you want in a luxury hotel.
Location The location is unbeatable, ~10 minute walk to the middle of Fira, with a ton of restaurants within easy walking distance. It is also right around the corner from a little square where taxis and car services do most of their drop-offs, including the pickup for our catamaran cruise.
Amenities/Design I think the builders nailed the design. They bridged the gap between a very modern updated space, but still feeling like you’re in Greece.
The pool area was fantastic. An infinity pool right on the cliffs overlooking the caldera with a poolside bar, how can you even beat that? Drinks were fantastic, and can be charged to the room so you don’t have to worry about fumbling around with your wallet by the pool. Alex was a very friendly bartender who makes an extremely solid mojito. Pool was pretty chilly, but felt amazing after the uphill walk back from Fira, and was refreshing after just sitting by the pool with the weather in the low-mid 70s we had in mid-May.
We also couldn’t have asked for better breakfast. You can call your order in the previous night before 6:00p and it will be delivered to the table outside of the front door. The granola and Greek yogurt with fresh fruit and honey was top-notch, and there is also the option for freshly cooked eggs.
Views Honestly don’t know how you beat the views here. Instead of fighting with a bunch of influencers to get that perfect picture on the Fira walkway, you can just step right outside your door and get that perfect sunset picture.
Service Absolutely outstanding service. Spyros was fantastic. He arranged our transport to and from the airport, as well as arranging a taxi to take us to Oia. His friendly and polite service made our stay that much more special.
This was our first time to Greece, and figured Santorini was going to be pretty touristy. But, we were blown away by how much we enjoyed everything here. The Greek people as a whole are some of the most friendly in the world. Wouldn’t hesitate to come back to Santorini, and would stay at Homeric Poems every...
Read moreLet me start by saying we had a nice time (in spite of this review). The view is sick, and the general vibe is good.
With that said, we were gaslighted about our booking. We booked the honeymoon suite (on our honeymoon). We arrived and were told we could not get into our room for 3 hours (no big deal). No mention of what room we would get at this time. When we come back, they tell us "we've been upgraded to a cave suite." While the price tag is higher, it is not what we wanted. It was not a private balcony as advertised. Our "upgrade" was also located in the middle of the main walkway to and from the kitchen and is connected to adjacent rooms with a door, which is not soundproof.
When we pushed back on this, we were told it was an upgrade and that we should be happy. As it was our honeymoon, it was not worth switching hotels or fighting more about it, so we stayed. With that said, this is no way for a luxury hotel to operate.
When we pressed them on it, it turns out construction was happening, and the honeymoon suite was not done. They already knew this before we arrived, but never told us. After some negotiating, they gave us a small amount of money back. With that said, they should have told us weeks earlier about the room construction situation or comped us much more than they did. The lack of transparency, as well as the need for us to push for anything was absurd.
If we had known in advance about the room change, we could either have adjusted our expectations accordingly or found another hotel with a honeymoon suite available. Instead, we got an unpleasant surprise.
Also, while the lunch/dinner is not horrible, I wouldn't call it great. The breakfast is nice.
The front desk folks, while helpful after the initial mixup, really did not want to take ANY responsibility for the situation. Again this place is not cheap. I wish we'd gone elsewhere for...
