Loved the hotel, our cave-style room and incredible caldera views from our little terrace. The property is only a few minute walk to the heart of Oia (while overlooking caldera!) but still private enough where you don’t have to deal with all the touristy spots and the noise. The sunrises and sunsets are stunning, but can also be observed from any place along the caldera (if you like to explore).
The staff and Niko (the owner) are super friendly, cordial and helpful with suggestions for dining and activities. Definitely opt in for a breakfast buffet, which is really delicious and always fresh, it will remove the stress of having to plan another meal (too many beautiful spots to choose from!) and give you the fuel needed to explore all the beauty Santorini has to offer.
Tip #1: if you are staying for 2+ nights, book a small rental car (roughly EUR 40-50/day) from the airport or port (if arriving by ferry). It will allow you to see all the best spots, beaches and historic sites + provide much needed AC cooling in between the sites. Def best decision we made when we arrived here via ferry (especially considering a private taxi would cost us EUR 180/ea to/from Oia!). Parking is not an issue anywhere in Santorini.
Tip #2: invest in good polarized sun glasses before coming here (or buy a pair here). Your eyes will thank you and the views will get exponentially richer (if that s even possible). My husband invested in a pair of ray bans and I must admit I was a bit jealous as he wasn’t big on sharing!
Tip #3: if you are planning to visit one of the main beaches (White beach, Black beach, Red beach) bring a small anti-fog snorkel set with you or buy one here (EUR 10-20), it is a lot of fun snorkeling around observing sea life (see a pic included below). DO NOT buy all-in full face mask with built-in snorkel, the view quality was not as good and I found it really hard to breathe/clearing out after deeper dives.
Tip #4: leave most of your clothes/shoes behind and take only a few “this makes me look 🔥amaaaazinggglyyyhoooottt🔥” pieces and that means 3-4 pieces and not half of your closet! Everything else can be bought here at a very reasonable or often cheaper price than back home. Ladies, as always your choices are limitless over here. You will appreciate the lightness of your bags and your husband won’t be grumpy of having to log it around!
Lastly and most importantly:
Tip #5: Taking picture and videos. While you will hate the cruise ship masses with their selfie sticks and constant clickaateeeclickclickclickclick...I hate to tell you, you will become one of them or envy of not having taken at least one good shot. Selfie or not, get a selfie stick that can serve as a small tripod as well. It served us well and we got a few really good shots without having to beg anybody else. Want good shots without the tourist masses? Take yours between 6.15-7.30AM when you can still go to the best iconic spots when most of the island...
Read moreAn absolute gem. Small resort with about 30 villas/rooms. Very quiet and relaxing, a lot of the time we had the pool to ourselves. All the staff are excellent and really helpful. Check in was swift and very informative. You can choose your breakfast the day before and it is served on your balcony/terrace or can be served by the pool overlooking the Caldera at a time you wish. Daily house keeping with fresh towels. Robe and slippers provided. There is a kitchen with a kettle, tea, coffee, sugar and milk provided and replenished. There are plates, glasses, cups and cutlery, there is a fridge with ice compartment and a bottle of water was provided on arrival. There are no cooking facilities. The pool bar serves all kinds of drinks and there is a menu of salads, burgers etc. The food was lovely. The pool is excellent and quite large for Santorini with comfortable sun lounges, plenty of umbrellas and pool towels are provided. Rooms have a terrace with table and chairs, umbrella and a small washing line for your swim wear. The place is kept spotless and I didn’t experience any mosquitoes, lizards or any creatures 😂 Wifi worked very well. The hotel is situated on the Fira to Oia walk and is just outside the busy area of Oia. It takes about 5 minutes to be in the hustle of Oia where there are lots of restaurants, shops. Would I return? Definitely. The price was very reasonable, nearby hotels are £100’s some £1000’s more. I tipped the maid daily, there is a tip jar in the pool bar and I think that would be for all the hotel staff to share and I tipped there too. The hotel feels very safe, we left our door open whilst in...
Read moreThe only thing that could have made our stay better is to have gotten off the city bus from Fira @ Oia’s FIRST stop (directly across from hotel). We then would have had 30 more minutes (of baggage schlepping) to enjoy Nikko’s. We were greeted warmly by GM Dimitri and whisked up to a room that, in part for it’s VIEWS, was so superb I almost did not want to negotiate for a price lower than what we had seen on Booking.com. Even that was accomplished with wisdom and fairness by Dimitri. |The room was darling, with antiques that function w/ o stuffiness and everything you could hope to use. The bed & pillows were pleasantly firm and although just above the pool, our room was sufficiently quiet. The included breakfast the next morning delivered promptly at 8 AM was icing on top of the cake. What a treat out on our balcony! The gals at the front desk were terrific the next morning in seeing that we knew where and when to catch the bus back to Fira and the port as well as storing bags.|We have seen Oia go from a majestic-but-tatty village 25 years ago to a glitzy world travel destination for seemingly BAZILLIONS of tourists. This will be our last trip (of 4) to Santorini as a result. I am so glad that we stayed at Nikko’s as their gracious hospitality at a good price-point was such a positive |experience despite all the ‘tourons’ (tourist-morons) on...
