What can I say.. this place probably shouldn't be called a hotel but there's a reason why it's only a 2 star hotel, you get what you pay for I suppose. Said online you could pay with card when i arrived and were told we had to pay cash. If you like peace and quiet this isn't for you, the sound travels and walls are thin even with ear plugs i struggled to get a good night sleep. you're right next to the jungle but it's located pretty close to town the only benefit. Rooms are located above the family home, expect ants like I said your next to the jungle however cockroaches were a surprise, maybe if they cleaned rooms daily and emptied the toilet bin this could be prevented. No hot water showers here and if you flick the switch over the lights will flicker and sparks came out the top of the shower head just leave it on cold if I was you. Also, mould spots on the ceiling above the bed. Gave 2 stars instead of 1 because the mattress was quite new and comfortable and the owners...
Read moreI really enjoyed my stay here. It is not a 5 star hotel but it's excellent for the price. The location is off the main street about 3 minutes, and the walk there is safe and pleasant, with muralled walls, kids playing, and some other hotels. Check in was easy and the staff was very welcoming. I was upgraded from a double room to a room with 3 queen beds. The room was clean, and the bed that I slept in was very comfortable (didn't test the others). The bathroom plumbing worked well. Shower was lukewarm but that's what I expect here. There was some noise from dogs and roosters but nothing different than anywhere else I've stayed. Not sure why Google says this is a love hotel - I was on the lookout for Japan style love hotel furnishings or couples discretely checking in, but it seemed really normal.
Anyway, I'd stay here again. It's great value...
Read moreWe arrived in Panajachel close to New Year's to discover that most things were booked solid. We came across Posada Don Carlos upon recommendation of a local who showed us the way. It's located down a back street/alley so we were a bit leery at first, but it turned out to be safe with a gated garden providing safe parking for our motorcycles (you might have a hard time getting a car down the alley!). Our room was clean and on the second floor (I think the family takes up most of the rooms on the first). Internet signal was good. Cockroaches were a problem, and a loud banging sound from behind the hotel kept me awake most of the night. But the owners were friendly and accommodating and the hotel is withing walking distance to the main intersection of town, bars,...
