I had an unfortunate experience with this hostel due to the way my reservation was mishandled and the discriminatory behavior of the reception staff.
I booked two nights at the hostel through Agoda. When I arrived, the receptionist did not ask for my name and simply led me to a room. After staying for one night, I returned the next afternoon to find that my belongings had been removed from my bed and placed on a shelf. The receptionist then informed me that they did not receive my reservation at all because they were blocked from Agoda.
To make matters worse, they explained that I was able to stay the previous night because the receptionist who checked me in had assumed I was another guest of Asian descent listed in their system, who had only booked for one night. This assumption was not only unprofessional but also blatantly racist. They did not have an extra bed for the night, leaving me stranded during a busy flower festival when nearly all accommodations in Antigua were sold out.
While the dorms themselves are clean and the location is convenient, the mishandling of my reservation and the discriminatory behavior I experienced completely overshadowed these positives. For these reasons, I cannot recommend...
Read moreThe 4.9/5 average stars is too much, but I do like this place. Good value, and exceptionally clean. Unlike many other hostels in Guatemala, it DOES have a kitchen. It has its quirks and various small deficiencies, but nothing majorly frustrating (which is saying something). There is one lady who does weird things that seem kind of rude, like occasionally peeking in through someone's curtains near checkout time, but overall the staff are very kind, helpful, and polite. The location is good, in a bustling part of town between the central park and the public market. The common areas are nothing impressive, but there are several areas to sit, including a big dining table plus some semi-soft...
Read moreClean and comfortable bed. Unfortunately, I wasn’t lucky as there was no hot water during my stay, and the toilet was a bit messy (though they clean it very often). Luggage storage costs 50 GTQ. One issue I encountered was with payment: the lady at the front desk mistakenly asked me to pay a second time. Although I showed my credit card record, it didn’t resolve the issue. While I understand it wasn’t entirely her fault, a more reliable system would have helped avoid this misunderstanding. Overall, it’s a very budget-friendly hostel, but keep in mind the space is...
