I came here after a Google search suggested they might have a great vegan pepián. I was hoping to relax and enjoy the experience, but something about the vibe felt off from the start — uncomfortable in a way I couldn’t immediately name.
My table was the only one without napkins, and none were offered. A small detail, but it set the tone.
I live in Latin America and speak Spanish every day. But here, speaking Spanish with the male staff seemed to trigger a strange defensiveness — as if the moment I opened my mouth, they assumed I was trying to show off. I came here to relax, but it got so uncomfortable I didn’t even feel safe asking if I could have tortillas with my pepián (which came in a crêpe). It felt like I’d be mocked just for asking.
What confirmed my intuition was when I left a generous tip. Instead of showing appreciation, one of the guys gave me a smug smile and fired off rapid Spanish clearly meant to trip me up — a “gotcha” moment. It didn’t feel friendly or human; it felt like an energy game. I immediately regretted tipping extra.
I’ve lived in Latin America for years and have never left a negative review. But the vibe from the male staff here was disrespectful. I might give the restaurant another chance if that dynamic shifts — but I won’t be tipping extra unless the service...

And their crepes? DE.LI.COUS!!!
I have tried a “papian” which is a fully vegan and very Guatemalan traditional and soymilk based crepe filled with rice and veggies in a sauce. I'm eating it right now while writing this review because it's the best vegan crepe I've ever had and it definitely deserves a good review. I'd give it 10 stars if I could!
My partner is eating a Greek-style crepe and he's loving it too! It's vegetarian and filled with a HOMEMADE goats cheese (from happy local goats!), onion and spinach with a green pesto on the side.
This was an absolute vegan/vegetarian culinary experience. If you're planning to visit Antigua, CafeCafe is definitely a place to visit and food to eat!
The owners, Jeff and Jill, are great and usually around the Cafe so you can have a chat with them and get to know the story behind their business. The staff of the cafe is very polite, nice and they usually speak English! Which is a big plus.
The cafe itself is in a subtle white-blue Greek style and it's very calm and peaceful. Nice jazz music creates a very nice and chilled atmosphere! Some people come here to work too :)
Thanks, CafeCafe for a great place to be. We'll be...
Read moreThe service was decent. My partner enjoyed his Acai bowl. However, I ordered the oatmeal bowl with no peanut butter and only almond milk as I can’t have whole milk and he ordered the açaí bowl with not granola. I double check the hosts receipt and she wrote it down correctly.
The cook added the granola into the açaí bowl and the peanut butter into the oatmeal. Being that the modifications was disregarded, I didn’t trust that almond milk was used instead so I couldn’t eat the oatmeal. Plus allergy restrictions. I left still hungry and it wasn’t busy. The smoothie was good though!
Update
Decided to give them another chance so we went another day. I had avocado toast and full cooked eggs and bacon. Partner kept it safe and had Acai bowl. He got his food and I got my avocado toast and eggs 50 mins after him.. the manager had to ask them how long as he saw me starting to eat his Acai bowl. The eggs were runny even after waiting all that time!!! As I can’t eat runny eggs and the server made sure she told them!! So I had to basically wait 1 hour for a avocado toast and eggs. So I wouldn’t return if I ever come back to guate. They also charge 11% propina where other...
