A Disappointing Stay – Not Worth the Hype
I had high hopes for this property based on the glowing reviews and lovely photos, but unfortunately, our experience was quite disappointing. The best way to describe this lodging is as a hostel for retirees, complete with shared spaces, strict rules, and a surprising lack of hospitality.
Hosts: ★☆☆☆☆
While some reviews raved about how helpful the hosts were, our experience was the opposite. From the moment we arrived—exhausted and carrying 60-liter backpacks—we were given an exhaustive house tour and a list of rules before we could even set our bags down. They made multiple comments about the high cost of electricity, which felt inappropriate given we were paying over $1,000 USD for our stay. A simple "please turn off lights and A/C when not in use" would have sufficed.
They pre-booked us for a group dinner without asking, and even after we declined via text, they knocked on our (see-through) glass door during a nap to remind us. They also entered our room several times without permission—an unsettling breach of privacy.
When I reached out in advance asking for activity recommendations based on our interests, they had little to offer. For example, they couldn’t recommend a single boat tour company despite Roatán being famous for them. They also failed to respond when I asked about typical taxi costs or the best way to reach the property. While they did share the number of a driver, he charged far more than others we found.
There was also a planned water outage during our stay that they failed to notify us about—so I ended up mid-shower with no water. Their excuse was that they didn’t know the exact timing, but a heads-up would have been appreciated.
The final straw was when they warned us about West End being “unsavory”—a word choice that felt racially coded and disrespectful toward the local community. Coupled with Fox News playing constantly in the background, it painted a tone that felt unwelcoming and out of touch.
Location: ★★★☆☆
While technically in West Bay, the property is a solid 20-minute uphill walk from the main beach, restaurants, and stores. It’s not an easy trek—especially at night, in the rain, or for older guests. One fellow guest was shocked I had walked it at all. If proximity to the beach or nightlife matters to you, I’d suggest staying in West End, a West Bay beachfront resort, or even Sandy Bay.
Internet: ★★☆☆☆
One of the reasons we booked this place was the promise of having the "best Wi-Fi in Roatán." That claim did not hold up. The day we arrived, the internet didn’t work at all. A technician came, but the connection remained spotty for the rest of our stay. My partner had to use his hotspot to work, as video calls kept dropping.
Property: ★★★★☆
The grounds were pretty, though it was too windy during rainy season to enjoy the outdoor spaces comfortably. The sun also disappears from the back patio by noon. The made-to-order breakfast was fine but extremely slow—expect to wait 45+ minutes. For a basic egg sandwich, that’s excessive. The bedroom door locks were difficult to use, and never fully secure.
Amenities: ★★★☆☆
Towels, snorkel gear, and yoga mats were available, which was appreciated. But there were several misses: bar soap that had clearly been used by previous guests (with hair on it), VO5 shampoo, and no housekeeping during our 5.5-day stay. For a place branding itself as luxury, these touches fell short.
Bottom Line:
This place may work for some travelers, particularly those seeking quiet and don’t mind a heavily monitored, rule-oriented environment. But with so many better accommodations on Roatán, I wouldn’t recommend it—especially if you value privacy, flexibility, and genuine...
Read moreIf you are looking for an unforgettable vacation, this is the place! Dustin and Tracy have taken care of every little detail. I can’t begin to describe the breath taking views, from each of the four immaculate private suites with huge walk in closets and full size bathrooms. Each suite also has a safe, mini fridge, comfortable memory foam beds & separate air conditioner. Not to mention beach & pool towels, snorkeling gear, pool floats, yoga mats, beach bags, etc. They even have amenities that are rarely found on Roatan, like high-speed internet, a generator, tap water that is safe for drinking, and showers with strong water pressure and plenty of hot water. The commons area had a couch comfy enough for my nap, a bar, a microwave and a half bath. There’s even a washer & dryer you can use. They truly thought of everything! ||When we were kicked out of Keyhole because they double booked us, we were moved here for 7 nights then told we could go back to Keyhole for the last 5 nights. At first I was a little irritated & apprehensive because we moved from a 2br condo to a hotel room. Turns out we absolutely loved it!! In fact, after the 7 nights we even paid extra to stay here rather than go back to Keyhole. Even though Keyhole was really nice, it didn’t hold a candle to Fisher’s Landing! This turned out to be the best vacation spot ever!!! ||I got up early every morning to either watch the spectacular sunrises from our sliding glass door in our suite or (better yet) to really experience them from the landing in the back yard built right over the top of the sea spray as it crashed into the iron shore. After enjoying the daily sunrise I took a walk alone almost every morning while my husband slept in. The upscale neighborhood is quiet and feels very safe. We also walked home in the dark after dinner a few times. It is only about a 5 minute walk to the Kismet restaurant or a 10 minute walk to many restaurants on West Bay beach. If we didn’t want to walk, we could easily get a taxi in a matter of minutes. Or, if Dustin or Tracey were headed to town they would drop us off. No need for a car, (but if you want to rent one they have parking on site.)||After my morning walks, we enjoyed a delicious breakfast each morning with a fabulous view. Mind you, this was not your standard hotel breakfast. This was an outstanding made to order breakfast with options like omelets, coconut bread French toast, avocado toast and breakfast sandwiches. We rarely ate lunch because the awesome breakfast was so filling it kept us satisfied all day. ||After breakfast we would sit around in the commons area visiting with Dustin & Tracy while taking in the immaculate views. They would answer questions, make suggestions, schedule activities & just chit chat with us for a while. Some of our best experiences were suggested & scheduled by them. We had a masseuse come give us a massage right in our room. (It was one of the best massages we have ever had.) They got us scheduled with EastRoatan tours for an awesome day of snorkeling with nurse sharks at Pigeon Cay, gathering jade at Jade beach, and more. Another day Tracy took us to Mayan Jungle to play with the monkeys & hold a sloth. They went to dinner with us at Kristi’s Island Kitchen. They truly felt like friends not just hosts. ||Words can’t express thow highly we recommend this place. We felt so welcome and really loved every minute of our stay!! Can’t wait to stay here...
