I used to love this place since it opened, for me they have the best food in town. The problem is the service, slow, careless, a bit messy. I totally understand that the approach of the place is to be relaxed and chill, but the service shouldn't be, service should be on point. During summer there isn't air conditioning, neither is some fan moving the air. We tried some new drinks claiming to have pandan syrup inside, we couldn't taste it at all. We got a small lemonade instead of a pitcher, we ordered gluten free bread for 2 gluten intolerant people and they had only 1, we had to ask 3 times for leftovers take-away, they gave us the boxes at the table finally for DIY, I mean c'mon. I also provided this feedback face to face after dinner. THEY SIMPLY DIDN'T CARE, didn't even looked at me when I was talking. The cherry on the cake, they abandoned the POS machine on the table for us to pay, shall we also manage the card payment ourselves now?? Which kind of behaviour is that? It takes forever to grab the attention of a waiter, so it's very difficult to have the "relaxed and chilled" dinner you would expect. Maybe on a mid week day, definitely not during the weekend, definitely not during a 33° hot summer day. Not sure I'll go back honestly, and I'm very...
Read moreMiddle Eastern/Mediterranean inspired small plates made for sharing, very generous portions, recommend about 2 plates per person. Lots of gluten free, vegan, and vegetarian options. Very relaxed laidback atmosphere and cute interior. The staff were very nice and service was very fast.
I went by myself and got 2 plates plus a pita bread and I was very full and very happy. I got the Hummus Ma Lahma (homemade hummus, lamb and beef ragout, chickpeas) it was very nice and had amazing flavour, it wasn’t very spicy, and the hummus was so creamy and smooth. Unfortunately they had a busy day so were out of tabouleh and fattoush salad, so instead the waiter recommended the Pomegranate Chicken Liver (baharat spiced chicken liver, pomegranate syrup, tahini, pine nuts) which was nice but I wish I had gotten something else; for me personally, the pomegranate sauce was quiet sweet, and I’ve never tried liver before so the texture threw me off a bit and I got the ick after about 2/3 of the way through(but at least I tried something new), however it was very nice and full of flavour, the meat was cooked perfectly and everything was well balanced, but just wasn’t personally for me. The pita bread was SO light and fluffy and fresh, it was perfect.
Reservation highly...
Read moreIf you're looking for a restaurant that's hidden away in a corner street in Budapest, Dobrumba might just be your spot! But don't be fooled by its unassuming location, because this place is a gem! Just make sure you book in advance, or you might end up waiting longer than a English winter.
The muhammara was a standout dish for us. It was so good, we almost forgot about the flatbread it came with (which was pretty darn good too, by the way). The muhammara had such a unique and satisfying flavor, it's no wonder it's a staple in Middle Eastern cuisine.
Now, the labneh zhoug was a different story. It seemed like it had taken a dive into an olive oil pool and forgot to come back up for air. But fear not, my fellow foodies, because when you pair it with the muhammara, it's like a match made in culinary heaven!
And then came the shakshuka. To be honest, I had mixed feelings about this one. It had a nice, sweet tomato base, but the paprika was so overpowering, I felt like I was eating a spice rack. But hey, don't take my word for it, my wife loved it, so what do I know?
All in all, Dobrumba gets a solid 4/5 from us. So if you're in Budapest and you're feeling adventurous, give it a try! Just don't forget to bring your olive oil goggles for the...
