We've been all over Iceland and stayed in multiple amazing, beautiful places, by far this was the worst experience we've had ever in every way from customer service to the apartment itself (and not just in Iceland). When we came in (keep in mind it is a 5pm check-in which is late in and of itself) they told us it was self check-in and gave us information to get a key from a lock box. We followed the instructions and the key was not there -- we called them confused (after taking our suitcases up a flight of stairs -- there are no elevators), and they said they will call us back in 5-10 minutes after speaking with the manager. We waited with no call back, we had told them we had a car to return by 6pm and there was no street parking available in front of the building, but we didn't hear back until we called them back. They moved us to apparently a "deluxe", but really the same size apartment, and given we didn't see the earlier one there was no way of knowing if it was a "deluxe" upgrade. The new apartment given to us at 5:45pm was a building over and two flights up which we had to walk over ourselves with no "sorry for the inconvenience" from the team. Once there (with two suitcases and bags), we immediately noticed how incredibly hot it was -- the thermostat was set to 27.6 degrees C (82 degrees F). We tried to lower it to no avail, we called them about it and the general ridiculousness of the service and were told the manager was not available to discuss until the week later at the earliest (after 10 minutes of sharing the background). For the thermostat, we were told that people got cold in Iceland and that was normal. After a lot of argument, they sent someone up to tell us they didn't know what to do, that they always set every apartment to 21 degrees C. They told me they understood the frustration, but couldn't do anything to help us other than opening windows (which I had already done). Hour and a half later, every room (2 bedrooms, kitchen, living room) was still 26 degrees C or higher. Thank god for Expedia who helped to rebook us somewhere else that same night (while management claimed they fixed the issues -- we had pictures to prove otherwise). Despite the money lost in late car rentals, groceries bought to cook in our own place, we moved on at cost to us for our last night. Manager still has not called us back...||||Having never written a negative review, this is the first I feel is necessary for anyone traveling to Iceland. We've shared the same with Expedia and...

Read moreWe stayed for one night in a double room with a shared bathroom. I will most certainly not be returning. Here are some of my complaints. The mattress is way to firm, so firm that I actually dreamt I was sleeping on the floor. Every time the "lobby" door would open or close, our door would rattle in its frame, giving away an awful sound. There's a shared bathroom on each floor. The bathroom was so small and tight, I believe I developed claustrophobia for just going to the bathroom once. It was like putting in a straitjacket. Breakfast in The Berlin coffee shop downstairs was very good although a bit pricey. We even got a 10% discount for being guests of the Acco. But the cooffe shop shares a stairwell with the hotel, so our room always smelt like toast and bacon. Not a bad thing for some people, but it gets old, fast.
I'm going to give this place two stars, one for the location, which is really good. Right in the heart of downtown with loads of bars and restaurants in the immediate vicinity. The other star goes out to the price of the room, in a country so expensive, it was a really fair price. "You get what you pay for" really applies in this context. But i don't think I paid for a rock hard bed or cloths that smell like a dirty diner on route 66.
P.s. There was an incident at around 12 am, where another guest tried to get in our room. Reason being that he had booked the same room, the same night as us. His booking information said room 31 just like mine. Not his fault, it was the...
