Island Apartments — Hotel in Reykjavik

What can you say about a comfortable room that is clean and in a good location but is on a busy street and above a restaurant? ||The studio apartment I was in barely accommodates a solo traveler so I'm not sure how more than one person could stay there. There was no room for a single suitcase let alone double if two people are in the studio. ||The other con is the location. Although it is centrally located, you can hear the buses, the late night revelers, the cars playing loud music ... you get my drift. Although the website describes the rooms as soundproof, that might mean the walls but that doesn't apply to the windows. The windows aren't insulated and even with them closed, you can still hear the street noise.||For some reason, management has decided not to provide blackout curtains which are essential for the summer months when it never gets dark. The shades just didn't cut it.||Strangely, being above an Indian restaurant, you couldn't smell it in the room.||If the room was anywhere else, I would give it a better review but since I did not sleep well due to the noise which could be remedied with soundproof windows, I'm giving it a...

For starters, the hosts are extremely nice and very communicative when we had questions! The location could not be more perfect for someone who wants to be near everything; direct access to top notch bakeries and restaurants, short walk to the shoreline (less than 5 mins and viewable from the corner), and walkable distance to the city centre for more sights and bus stops for tours (less than 10 mins). The room itself was just like the pictures, no surprises, which is always nice! Had everything we needed- nice bed, tv, refrig/freezer, microwave,stovetop, kitchenware and private bathroom. Another great feature was the couch (pulls out for extra sleeping) and the table. We would come "home" and review the day on the couch and eat our breakfast at the table- it made it feel like home! Location felt safe and the room was clean; housekeeping came once to empty trash...

pro: central place near all attractions of the old city. Owners were very friendly and responsive to any demands. the apartment "de luxe " was big enough and the bathroom is modern. to improve: entry near Indian restaurant kitchen with all the flavors. very difficult stairs to climb and lack of handrail in the upper part. very unsafe step on the apartment .my wife forgot in the nighttime and hurt herself. there is no shelf in the shower. there is no coffee machine and coffee shops open late." de luxe " must-have all the appliances for minimal comfort. cook vessels very used Teflon coating must be undamaged to be healthy. window doesn't close well still...
