Hnoss — Restaurant in Reykjavik

Guys, i must say i have yet to visit this restaurant but hear me out. As clumsy as I am, I booked a table for the New Years Eve at Hnoss just 2 days in advance and was pleasantly surprised that it worked out. Cause, you know - you should book your table for New Years real in advance.

So the next day I got a call from the restaurant and guess what - they got my booking, but just because there was a breach in the system and they are actually closed on the 31th.

A very friendly Rakel Ýr told me about that and she was so friendly, that she called a couple of restaurants nearby to ask if they had capacities to accommodate us and she mentioned to me those, which did.

And that’s why we had the most wonderful New Years dinner in Reykjavik - though not at Hnoss - but because of and thanks to Hnoss and its most friendly and cool staff. Thank you...

Since I work evenings my time to go out dining is lunchtime and this one is becoming one of my favourite spots to do so. The atmosphere is relaxed and I really like the decor and the different seating areas you can choose to dine. The lunch menue is more limited than dinner menue of course but everything I have ordered from it is good and you can always bet on the fish of the day which is different from day to day so it never gets boring. I’m a sweet tooth so good desserts are very important to me and I highly recommend their creme brulee. Also they have weekend brunch which is a bit different from what you might expect of a brunch since they don’t serve any meat but lots of really tasty vegetarian dishes, fish, eggs and...

Leider blieb das Hnoss für uns in allen Disziplinen hinter unseren (vielleicht zu hohen?) Erwartungen zurück. Die Einrichtung ist stilsicher und geschmackvoll. Modern und unaufdringlich. Die Location innerhalb des Erdgeschoss der Harpa macht das Ambiente besonders. Leider bleibt dadurch aber auch immer ein Rest Bahnhofshalle, denn irgendwo zieht es, irgendwo wird gelärmt, irgendwo ist eine Aufführung beendet und es schwärmen Massen an die Theke. Durchgehende Gemütlichkeit kommt daher leider nie so richtig auf. Der Service zur Begrüßung war freundlich und professionell. Dann wurde es aber leider leicht chaotisch. Insgesamt drei Damen fragten im Wechsel nach unserer Bestellung. Das führte zum einen dazu, dass die Cocktails zeitgleich mit dem Essen kamen (anstatt vorab, um uns während der Auswahl des Menüs zu erfrischen), was wir uns für Ruhe und Entspannung anders gewünscht hatten. Zum anderen fühlten wir uns ständig gehetzt und gedrängt. Beim Essen konnte die Burrata Bruschetta noch komplett überzeugen. Die Fischsuppe war gut, aber auch "nur" gut. Eine große Enttäuschung war die trockene und lieblos präsentierte Pilz-Lasagne. Wenn meine Freundin mich nicht gebremst hätte, wäre diese zurück gegangen. Dennoch gaben wir den Desserts eine Chance und erhielten mit Skyr Creme und einem leckeren Schokokuchen einen ebenfalls "guten" Abschluss. Die Rechnung war hoch, allerdings vermutlich für Reykjavik und diese Location angemessen. Dabei wäre es schön gewesen, wenn Service und Essen ebenfalls auf diesem Niveau...
