BED BUGS Our stay here was disappointing. The bed sheets had black stains from dead bed bugs. In the bed frame there were bed bug nests and bed bugs crawling in the bed. This should have been noticed from the hosts and taken care of before they had guests. We got a few bites/rashes from them and had to get all our laundry and bags cleaned. The appearance of the room is clean but the bed was awful. We got a little more than half of the refund, when we should have gotten a FULL REFUND. I would hope that from now on they will check all the beds for bed bugs and make sure the sheets are washed/clean prior to their guests arriving. I am VERY disgusted and upset by this. This is a hygienic problem, and as we could see by the number of bed bugs they had definitely been there for a long time. I would guess a month or so. This is a big problem as bed bugs quickly spread and I do not need to bring this problem back home to my bed/clothes. I hope this review will help others make a decision, and for the hosts to have a better standard to not allow...
Read moreThe hotel was fine for a short stay, but we made a mistake by booking 7 nights and trying to work from the hotel on our laptops. The internet was very poor. Even though Esther kindly enough moved us to a room closer to the router, it was still so weak and unreliable that we spent most of the week in cafes. I cannot recommend it for digital nomads. The rooms, though small, were clean and well kept. The breakfast was good enough. I do want to mention the staff. They did a good job and always provided us with what we needed, but I think a certain level of personality was missing in all of them. Maybe they're just young, but when we first arrived (coming from a homestay with a Balinese family) it didn't feel like we were welcomed there. There were 4-5 young people staring at us like they've seen a ghost and one of them trying to communicate that they offer tours. It was just a tad bit awkward, but not a deal breaker. There was also a bit more of a language barrier with this staff than at most I've...
Read moreMy husband and I booked Askara for a short stay in Ubud and were pleasantly surprised. The staff were excellent and were more than happy to help with airport transfers or any activities. Our private double room was spacious with a double bed, desk & chair, TV, private bathroom and air con. The bedroom door opened put right onto the pool side. Each morning a breakfast was provided, a different meal each day ranging from rice or noodles to banana pancakes all served with fruits, tea or coffee and a glass of water. WiFi in the guesthouse worked ok in the communal areas but was a bit patchy in the room. The guesthouse is located a 20 minute walk from the centre of Ubud. You have to walk along a road and watch out for holes in the pathway where the sewage gutters run but apart from that it's totally fine. We walked to and from town many times, in the evening we would recommend taking a torch though. Alternatively it is only a short taxi ride...
