Positives:
Great location, one minute and you hit the main street.
Staff are nice and have a good heart but are not professionally trained.
Staff reply on Whatsaap in seconds and tend to your needs immediately.
Solid internet. Space to work outside the rooms.
Negatives:
At $US 60 a night, it becomes confusing as this is a hotel with the service of a hostel.
It's way too over priced for what is offered. The front office/reception is literally non existent. Staff are way too casual for a hotel.
The whole place is covered in dust due to construction accompanied with severe continuous noise of drills, hammers and more.
We got the ground floor room and there is constant movement outside, in the swimming pool and also the staff having to enter a door beside our room and also just have a chat there.
Worst thing is the double bunk system. You come back tired, want to relax and the bed is a steep climb away. You have to be very careful as the wooden stairs are very slippery.
The sofa is terrible, uncomfortable and dirty. If you forget to turn off the lights you have climb down again. No switches in the bed area.
For a hotel built for digital nomads, not a single plug is international. Yes I carry universal adapter but it's ridiculous.
To use the kettle I have to unplug the TV. Seriously?
The bathtub is disgusting, if you do manage to get in, good luck not feeling guilty for wasting massive amounts of water.
Breakfast served is pathetic for the price and brought from next door open in a tray without any cover.
The room does not go completely dark and light shines bright into the bedding area due to the gap in the curtains at top.
Randomly, gasses get released into the bathroom from the drainage.
Conclusion:
Not sure about the high ratings but this is my experience of staying here for 4 nights.
At $60 a night you can find a good hotel where you won't have to crawl in and out...
Read moreGreat little hotel hidden down off the main road, behind some local houses. The hotel is fairly new at the time of writing this, and as such is in good condition with a beautiful design. Merging modern with Balinese.
Rooms are well laid out in a very unique and well thought out loft style design. With the bedroom being at the top of some very steep stairs (beware of the very low ceiling and possible claustrophobia without a window up here). The lounge room is perfect for people who need to work on their laptop, with a desk, comfortable roller chair and one of my favorite features about this hotel, power points everywhere! Something that is far too often overlooked in hotels these days. There is also great WiFi, as each room has its own router. A comfortable sofa and large smart TV round out the living area for those lazy rain days inside. And a small closet with hangers is also provided. The bathroom has an industrial feel to it, and provides everything you need with a premium polished feel.
Service and staff here are excellent and friendly.
Location is ok, quiet and off the main road. A little walk (5-10 mins) and you're in amongst the action of the Monkey Forest area, with excellent restaurants and bars. Yoga Barn is about 10 mins away if that's your thing.
The only negatives I found were the hallways outside the rooms need some soundproofing (maybe panels hung from the walls like art), as they are basically echo chambers when anyone is talking or working in them, and that sound funnels straight into each room. Also bring earplugs, as there are some bars nearby which can be very loud, and the doors to the balcony are thin and not designed to keep noise out. And the pool being a murky green colour and not clear.
Highly recommended little hotel for anyone wanting comfort and work...
Read moreWe were taken aback initially when we arrived at the site as we did not know how to access the hotel. Ideally, I would have appreciated a more intuitive direction to the hotel and consistency with the experience of being in Clan Living i.e. building materials featured in the hotel’s facade are primarily bamboo and coffee branch which seemed disjointed from the surrounding buildings.
The pictures and descriptions featured on numerous architecture blogs are true. I get a sense that Clan Living was built for digital nomads. However, I do hope that fans could be added to the bamboo hut for better circulation on those humid Ubud afternoons. For now, you can simply dip your foot in the water as you work to cool yourself down. Most crucially, I hope that there will be a shelter connecting the main building with the hut because when it is raining, it is very inconvenient to travel to and fro to work or use the communal kitchen. Finally, I hope that there will be a proper reception area to welcome guests in the future, right now the team is simply seating under the ramp of the bamboo hut which obscures or confuses guests arriving.
The room is comfortable and well-equipped. The work desk and chair proved to be ideal for a productive day in. Also, there was more than sufficient storage space for our backpacks. There was complimentary access to Netflix and Amazon Prime on the television which filled our nights. The bed was also comfortable with pleasant-smelling linen. But if you are a light sleeper, I would recommend booking the 3rd level because there are instances when I was awoken by my neighbour’s footsteps. Also, as I am usually busy with work online, it would have been great if the hotel offered a...
