I've never had a proper Argentinian grill. Whilst in Ubud I had partaken in many local dishes. Balinese food is awesome. So? Why would you want to go to an Argentinian grill while in Bali Ubud? Because the place is amazing! That's why! Some caveats to start. My trip to Bali had mostly been unplanned. I like exploring side streets and little eateries run by locals. My suggestion? if you want to visit Batubara reserve a table!! I waited, perhaps, 30 minutes?? It was all worth it. I had a few Bintangs while waiting. I was traveling alone, so , I expected a delay. Not a problem at all. There were plenty of tables and chairs for waiting guests. Ash trays, etc. This is Bali , of course, and smoking is hardly prohibited any where. I knocked back a couple XL Bintangs while I waited. Instead of being annoyed, I engaged in conversation with other patrons. You'll never know who you'll meet. The owner happened to be on the floor, frantically serving his customers. I happened to meet him at the end of the night and you can tell this is one of his great passions! That passion translates in to the best, tastiest food I have yet encountered. I ordered garlic prawns with a "damper" type soft bread. I eagerly shoveled garlic and olive oil in to my mouth using the bread. Balinese garlic has a strong unique flavour that pairs well with the imported beef on offer (local also available). I knew the moment I saw the menu board outside that I would be having the "rib Cap". I had never heard of this cut prior to tonight. A quick Google search revealed it is generally revered as "the" best cut of beef one can acquire. I wasted no time ordering. The meat came, along with a lovely and proficient hostess who sliced and placed the meat on a small charcoal grill. Chimichurri and salt as sides is all you really need. I opted to also pair my steak with a puree' of potato, garlic and truffle. I finished my meal and I honestly could have died happy at that moment. Your experience may differ. Don't be displeased if you have to wait. Book ahead,! I rocked up and was very happy to wait for a table. That's how good the food is!! If you see "rib Cap" on the menu, do yourself a favour and treat yourself. It's expensive, at least for Bali. Do not let that deter you. From the experience I had, it was worth every cent!!! So, if you find yourself in Ubud and you've had enough Nasi Goreng, Babi Guling, or whatever. Do yourself a favour and visit. You will not be...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Batubara Wood Fire, and it was an outstanding experience. Despite not having a reservation, we arrived a bit early for dinner and were fortunate to secure a table without any hassle. However, I highly recommend making a reservation, especially for group dinners or if you have a preferred dining time. You can conveniently inform the restaurant ahead of time via WhatsApp to avoid any queues or waiting times.
While waiting for our order, the restaurant surprised us with a crispy fried spinach with dip, which was a delightful treat. It was a tasty and crunchy appetizer that set the tone for the rest of the meal.
For starters, we indulged in their Wagyu tartar, which was absolutely phenomenal. The combination of flavors and textures was exquisite, and it was evident that the dish was prepared with great attention to detail. We also tried their grilled cheese, which was enjoyable, but the Wagyu tartar stole the show for us.
Moving on to the mains, we ordered the Rib Eye and Striploin. If you prefer a more tender cut of meat, I highly recommend the Rib Eye. The meat was cooked to perfection in the kitchen and then sliced and heated in front of us using special wood, adding an extra layer of smoky flavor. The presentation was impressive, and the taste was exceptional.
The staff at Batubara Wood Fire was amazing throughout our dining experience. They provided detailed explanations of the menu, helping us make informed choices. Their service was friendly, attentive, and they made us feel well taken care of.
The overall ambiance of the restaurant is perfect for a semi-formal dinner. It exudes a comfortable and inviting atmosphere, ideal for a memorable dining experience.
In conclusion, I wholeheartedly recommend Batubara Wood Fire for its excellent food and dining experience. The attentive staff, delectable dishes like the Wagyu tartar, and the charming ambiance all contribute to a delightful visit. Just remember to consider making a reservation, especially for group dinners, to ensure a seamless...
Read morePhenomenal 5-star experience. I’ve experienced a number of fancy restaurants across the world and whilst this restaurant doesn’t charge the highest prices or offer the wildest experience, it is an absolute must if you visit Ubud, Bali.
We booked ahead of time and were seated nearly immediately after turning up (asked to sit at the bar whilst the table was cleared and readied). After visiting the toilet straight away, I came back to our table to find a large blackboard resting on top of a chair, with a large chopping board laid out on the table, displaying six different cuts of steak; multiple Wagyu steaks (it’s what we came for), as well as two or so no Wagyu but still great cuts. The blackboard sets out the menu, including the daily specials. A waitress came over and explained the ordering process and how it all works.
After ordering our food, we were politely asked if we would relocate to another table, as the two of us were seated at a four-seater table. We kindly obliged and were pleasantly surprised to receive a complimentary plate of aubergine-crisps, lightly topped with cheese.
The meat cooking process was extravagant, boasting a live (but short) cooking show right in front of your eyes, as your steak is cooked to your liking on a coal fire.
As we ordered a side dish which wasn’t delivered to the table, we received an additional complimentary saving as a way to compensate us. The table service was exquisite, with even our waiter offering my partner anti-bug spray, after noticing her flailing her arms as she shoo’d the mosquitoes away.
The manager was an absolute delight, someone you would wish to be your best friend and is clearly passionate about his job (and his restaurant).
Would absolutely visit again.
