This restaurant was the reason I moved to Ubud!
It’s my third time at Seeds; this time with my family so I could try several dishes. I had reserved from a week before but the only available slot was 4.30 PM, so we considered it light snacking instead of a heavy meal. They’re currently building a new place just across the original place, so hopefully they’ll be able to cater to much more people soon!
🥬 Rice Paper Rolls was very fresh and the peanut sauce was also spot on (FYI I’ve been obsessed with peanut sauce all my life so my judgment is legit ✌🏻 Some of the veggies inside the rolls were not the ones put inside the classic rice paper rolls and there’s a unique fragrance & taste from an unrecognized veggie, which I really loved.
🦐 Shrimp Pad Thai was really delicious. Savory, sweet, tangy, spicy, and fresh all at once. Noodle texture was spot on. What I love the most about Seeds is their own unique take to elevate classic Thai/Indochina dishes, and this pad thai had a surprise too. There were pieces of Chinese sweet pickled radish or cai po (I guess?) which I did not find in other pad thai before. It added complexity to the flavors and texture.
🐽 Samcan Cabe Garam - my first love! I no longer had the pleasant shock I had when I first tried this dish, but it’s still as good. I think I wrote a love letter to this dish in my older post (check out my IG Guide tab under Asian/Fusion Restaurants). It’s super savory, caramelized, and crunchy from the chopped garlic, with a nice kick from the chili. For the sharing dish, they also added tangy dipping sauce, some veggies, and crispy batter.
🥥 Coconut Cendol Delight was sweet, light, and smooth as always. Perfect dessert to share if you’re feeling full but craving for something sweet.
🥐 Ceylon on Toasted Croissant was a total delight for my senses. It was beautiful and interactive (pour your own sauce) and had lots of textures - crisp and soft croissant mixed with sweet and smooth coconut ice cream, topped with crumble, roasted dried coconut, and peanuts.
Service was also excellent! All in all, a must visit when you’re in Ubud, and worth driving all the way too if you don’t...
Read moreA Popular Thai Restaurant with Decent Food and Long Wait Times at Seeds Eatery
Seeds Eatery is a highly popular restaurant that recently moved and expanded its premises. Known for its Thai cuisine, this establishment attracts a large crowd. While the food is decent overall, be prepared for a long wait due to its popularity, as it tends to be the busiest restaurant in the area.
The menu at Seeds Eatery offers a variety of Thai dishes, including the classic tom yum soup. While the tom yum was enjoyable, it didn't quite match the spiciness level commonly found in authentic Thai cuisine. However, the flavors were still satisfactory, and the soup had a pleasant tanginess.
Another highlight at Seeds Eatery is their oyster dish, which is prepared to perfection. The oysters are fresh and flavorful, offering a delightful seafood experience. Additionally, the noodle dish with crispy samchan is recommended, as the combination of textures and flavors creates a satisfying and enjoyable meal.
One aspect to consider when dining at Seeds Eatery is the long queue. Due to its popularity, it's not uncommon to encounter a wait time before being seated. However, if you're patient enough to endure the wait, the food is worth trying.
Overall, Seeds Eatery provides a decent Thai dining experience. While the tom yum soup may not match the spiciness of its Thai origins, the flavors are still pleasing. The oyster dish stands out as a tasty option, and the noodle dish with crispy samchan is also enjoyable. Keep in mind that the long wait times are a trade-off for the restaurant's popularity, as it is likely the only bustling eatery in the area.

Read moreAs a Thai food enthusiast, I had high expectations for Seeds Eatery, a popular Thai restaurant. The experience, however, was a mixed bag. Firstly, be prepared for a crazy long wait; I queued for an hour and even had to grab a bite elsewhere during the wait. Booking ahead might be a good idea.
A major letdown was the sold-out oyster omelette, a dish I was eager to try. The ambiance on the first floor added to the discomfort - it was swelteringly hot, lacking ceiling fans, which even the staff seemed to struggle with. We requested a seat change, and thankfully, the second-level seating was much more comfortable.
Our order included Tom Yum soup (less spicy), wasabi oysters, and Thai milk tea. The Thai milk tea was the highlight - perfectly balanced, not overly sweet, with a robust tea flavor. Highly recommended! The Tom Yum soup, however, was just decent. Despite asking for a less spicy version, it still packed quite a punch.
On the plus side, the restroom facilities were impressively clean. A word of caution though: service can be slow. Our oysters took a long time to arrive. They were fresh and delicious once they did, definitely worth trying, but the overall wait time can be a hindrance if you're on a tight schedule.
In summary, Seeds Eatery has its highs and lows. The Thai milk tea and fresh oysters are a must-try, but be prepared for potential delays and seating discomfort on the...
