Unique affittacamere — Hotel in Cagliari

We liked:||1- The Location, very close to public transports, city center, shops and restaurants, plus Poetto beach is 15 minute away by bus.||2- Some staff were very friendly and helpful.||3- Breakfast is ok. You can find many nice cafe nearby for breakfast too.||4- A/C in the room was very good.|||But:||1- Our room confirmation from booking.com did not match with the room we were given. So when we entered the room, we were unimpressed.||We had 35 facilities listed, including balcony, mini bar, satellite, slippers, etc. we did not have these. We got a very simple below average room. 2 windows only, no balcony, no slipper, no mini bar, etc.||It also listed sofa, desk, sitting area as part of the facilities. In fact, these were located right outside of our room, meaning for all guests. Which means that made our room noisier, specially when the TV there was on.||2- The rooms are accessible via staircase (on the 3rd floor). I would like to add that you should calculate with 72 stairs and without a porter.||3- The hall way door on the 3rd floor was a disaster to open by key. The first 2 nights, it took 10 minute for my husband to figure out how to open this big door without breaking it and/or not waking up other guests. ||4- The bathroom/toilet in our room stunk 24/7. Nothing to do with cleaning. We could not figure out why. ||5- The shower area had not a single hanger, shelf or any place to even put a small sponge or shampoo or anything at all! this is a basic bathroom facility i expected. I do not take my sponge in and out out shower with me. So it was very inconvenient for me.||6- As mentioned above, we found our room noisy. In the confirmation it said it has sound proof. Not in our case. Because we could hear all the noise from the street plus anyone who walked or talked outside our room.||7- The cleaning staff starting up quite early. Meaning every morning we were woken up because of their noise, or simply because they were bangging on our door. Common sense is a rare commodity. If the door is locked and we are not answering to the banging, it means we are sleeping, please leave us alone, not keep banging on the door. My recommendation is that the property provide " do not disturb" or " please clean my room " signs which can be hanged outside each door to help both cleaning staff and the guests. ||8- Breakfast time is too short and too early for a holiday maker. Breakfast time is from 7:30 to 9:30. We ate only twice there simply because we did not want to wake up early.||9- at times, we experienced poor wifi...

Having just read some of the complaints on this accommodation I think the management have listened and changed a few things. This is not a hotel as such, but pleasant rooms in an old apartment block within 5 minutes walk of the main restaurant area and also the train and bus station, so we found it very well located. Trains to the airport run regularly & take 10 minutes maximum so very easy to get there. The rooms were spotless, spacious and quirkily decorated.The bathrooms are clean & fitted with modern walk in showers. They provided a casual breakfast although we hadn't paid for it, and was a help yourself to coffee, tea and pastries which ran till about 9.30am which we found adequate.There was a kettle and cups available to help yourself to your own coffee or tea at anytime. If you wanted more there is a fabulous coffee shop just outside the apartment block. The air con worked well and so noise outside was not an issue although we were on a room overlooking the road. ||Our only small quibbles were that the pillows were a bit lumpy and we were unable to have a late check out or leave our bags there beyond 12 noon ( However we could have organised this had we checked earlier than that morning and there is a cheap left luggage at the Bus Station) Also it is situated on the 3rd floor - about 80 steps - so don't go there if that is an issue. We were out most of the day so it didn't bother us and Alessandro came down to help us with our bags when we arrived and, helpfully, gave us lots of information on Cagliari. First impressions were not great when we arrived at 11am asking if there was somewhere we could leave our bags until the 3pm check in. As there was no front desk I saw a cleaner coming out of the main administration room and I asked her if there was somewhere we could leave them. She called the owner, but when I spoke to him he said that we had to come back at 3pm, end of story. Not very helpful!||Things did improve upon check in as the room was very nice, with a large bathroom and a reasonable amount of space. We were also given a bottle of water daily which was good.||The downside was there was very little hanging space with only 4 coat hangers and no proper wardrobe.||Breakfast was good with a nice selection of sweet pastries, although it would have been perfect if there was some salami and cheese to add to this. The breakfast area was nice although a little tightly packed with tables and chairs, making it difficult to get in and out. ||Overall it was a good place to stay for a few nights, with the potential to be even better if the smaller issues...
