I stayed in Hotel Giappone for 3 nights with my boyfriend and we didn't like it.. ||||Lets start with general things:||||- The reception was empty majority of the time we stayed in there including when we arrived ||- The hotel is in the 4th floor and there is no elevator||- The cleaning lady left her keys to every room on a counter in the public places for a whole day until we took the keyes into the reception...||- The location is great, right in the heart of Florence||- The walls lack proper sound proofness, you can hear everything from the streets||||About the rooms:||||-Rooms were clean, but a little jammed.. ||- Refigerator, shower and a tap were located in the rooms. So no privacy when taking a shower..||- The TV was super small (like 20'') so watching TV was nearly impossible.||- The bed was comfy, but they didnt have any blankets offering only 1 big sheet for both me and my boyfriend..||- The air conditioning worked decently, though it was hard to control. Either you had it on and it made the room too cold to sleep in (with only a sheet to cover you) or you had it off and the room became too hot to sleep in.. ||||Bathrooms:||||- There is only 1 bathroom in the whole hotel and everyone uses it (up to 16 guests) ||- The bathroom was clean, but everyone uses the same soap bar + hand towel which I thought was pretty gross.. They didnt even change the towel everyday||- Your room might be really far away from the toilet, or it might be close. If it's right next to it, you can hear everything.. You better bring earplugs for the night!||||Cleaning:||||- First day, the cleaning lady knocked on our door while we were just going out, so we told them to come in like 2 minutes. They ended up not cleaning our room at all||- Second day we left the air conditioning on to keep the room cool and the cleaning lady turned it off.. ||- Also they didnt even change the sheets or the towels, they just folded them back nicely. ||||||On the front door of the hotel it says that it has gotten an 8,5/10 review from booking.com but I strongly disagree. I'd give it a 4/10 just for the price and the location. Everything...

Read moreFlorence is notoriously expensive for hotels, so this one is a steal. However, please read what other posters have said about the steps and luggage (which is what I should have done!). There are 72 steps up a circular stairway and carrying a 50 pound suitcase and a carry-on up on a 95+ degree day is no picnic. I would advise the owner to put this in the confirmation email she sends... she mentions no breakfast served (plenty of cafes around), city tax and check-in/out time, but I think the stairs deserve some mention. There are a few rooms, I think, with full en-suite bathrooms. For a lower price, my room had a shower (best water pressure I've had in my Europe travels) and a sink. The toilet was down the hall and around the corner. This is the first time I've booked without an en-suite and I wasn't sure what to expect- the shared bathroom was extremely clean and I never had to wait to use it. However, there was a shower in the shared bathroom that drained into the floor and I used the bathroom after someone had taken a shower. The entire bathroom was wet. My room was fairly clean, although not charming in the least- walls a pale, sickly green, college dorm furniture, nowhere I really wanted to linger, although when you are in Florence, the last place you want to linger is in your room! || I happened to see another room while the door was open for the cleaning woman and it was very charming, so I guess it just depends. The good points are that the air conditioning worked wonderfully and the owner was very kind. The location is wonderful, too- very near the train station, Duomo, Mercato Centrale and within walking distance of everywhere you'd want to go. The wifi was free and worked great. I probably wouldn't stay here again because I don't travel lightly and the stairs were a major issue for me; however, if you don't pack as much as I do, don't mind a room that isn't very inviting, don't mind sharing a (sometimes wet!) bathroom, and like saving a lot of money, this hotel...
