This is a truly outstanding hotel by any standards. It compares well with Sandy Lane, Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat & Splendido, Portofino. It is also eye wateringly expensive, particularly since the sterling crash.
The standard of service is exemplary with nothing too much trouble for anyone - but with a genuine warmth of friendliness about it. The design and style of the place is what you would expect of Milan but it is beautiful. Every comfort is to hand in lavish bedrooms. Room service is excellent.
I'm struggling to find something negative to say about it but --- the pre and post theatre eating facilities (the bar serves some food) is really quite limited which is surprising given that the hotel is a stones throw from Teatro all Scala, the reason for my visit. It is ideally placed for everything else as well. I would like to visit again!
When you walk into the Mandarin Oriental Milan, you just do not walk into a luxury hotel but you walk into a hotel which excels in everything.
Located in the chic fashion district and also minutes away from the Duomo, this hotel surpasses almost all hotels I have ever stayed at in Europe.
The hotel is contemporary in design with nice bold colours truly reflecting the Milan as the fashion capital.
Rooms are excellently appointed with architecture which give a sense of large working space.
Very well place electric sockets and accepting Indian plugs ..... the very first in Europe. Generally its a pain to locate convenient power outlets for mobile and laptop chargers.
Bathrooms - superbly designed - absolutely A grade - fantastic local cosmetics again giving a local feel. Very well lighted.
In room Nespresso and tea kettles with a variety of Asian Teas - most European luxury hotels would only have coffee machines.
Lots of filtered still water in the rooms! again very important not just for Asian guests also for people who are health conscious.
Service - Outstanding!!!!!
The house keeping and room service would be available in just minutes after a call.
check-in - very warm welcome - a great idea to have a nice coffee table seating just across the front desk.
Concierge - Mr. Mario, very good, knowledgeable and helpful.a smiling face is always so nice to deal with.
Breakfast - choicest of options, finest of the fruits and nuts.
I was delightfully surprised that Ms. Eleni the Manager at the Breakfast Cafe remembered my name - its amazing if they try to remember names and faces as its not a 10 room hotel.
I wish to thanks all the staff at the cafe Eleni, Beatrice, Pietro, Gianluca, Olga, Federica, Matteo and if I missed someone who took excellent care of us.
Also would like to thank the Front Desk ladies and Alessandra for all their efforts in making our stay a memorable experience.
Finally - the whole team behind the scenes including the housekeepers, room service staff and all - they need to be congratulated for...
Read moreWe were so looking forward to return to MO Milan for 3 nights over the weekend. Unfortunately this return has totally ruined our past good memories at MO Milan. We have extremely disappointing services two out of three nights.
On the first night, the shower gel dispenser was empty after one squirt! I had to stop my shower and called housekeeping! It was extremely unpleasant and a waste of time to have to stop the shower and put on the oversized robe to wait for the shower gel to be delivered.
On our second day, we were totally upset by the rudeness of one of the service staff at breakfast. I ordered a tea with warm milk by the side. The tea came after a while without milk. I waited a while longer in case the waiter came back with the warm milk separately. After a while, I realized that they must have forgotten the milk, I tried informing another staff. He told me he can’t understand English. I tried signalling the receptionist as she walked in from the courtyard, she ignored me. Then my husband went to her to inform her. Still, nothing happened. Then I saw another gentleman walking towards me. I tried to tell him. To my horror surprise, he told me as he walked past me WITHOUT STOPPING “ your stuff is coming” ! Am I a beggar? What kind of service this is? We left without waiting any longer.
When we returned to the room, the room was made up by housekeeping, but we were horrified to see that all the used cups and glasses were left where they are WITHOUT BEING WASHED. There was even a curly hair left on the bed - none of us has curly hair. The empty shower gel bottle was not removed and the bath room just have additional new bottles lying around, rather than installed back in the wall. We wondered if we had checked into the wrong hotel since there is no trace of the MO standard of service. Even the airport hotel does not have such hiccups!
While they have apologised and offered me to speak to the manager, I told them I was there for holiday and not to speak to their management for such BASICS to get right at a 5star hotel. There is a stark contrast from MO Lucerne where we just stayed before going to Milan. It is truly a great disappointment and has ruined our weekend in Milan. No one deserves such an experience especially when one should expect proper service after paying top dollars at a supposedly top hotel. Housekeeping service needs to be seriously reviewed and staff needs to be properly trained. Not all staff members are service oriented! We are unlucky to meet all the bad ones over the weekend! MO used to be my first choice whenever I travel, my faith in the MO brand is challenged because not all MOs offer...
Read moreFirst time to Milan and couldn’t decide between the Four Seasons, Bulgari or The Mandarin. Definitely think The Mandarin was a very good choice. Excellent location. Set back from the commotion but steps from the high end shopping. La Scala is less than a 10 minute walk and The Vittorio Emmanuel Galleria is less than 15 minutes. It has lovely curb appeal and is not overly large. The staff is wonderful. The front desk is stellar and the concierge is also top notch. Mario and Carlo in particular were beyond fabulous. Well connected and beyond helpful. |We were graciously upgraded to a Junior Suite. Very spacious. Very contemporary decor. But a little on the dark side to be completely honest. I would not describe them as bright and happy aesthetically. Our room was a mix of burgundy, beige, grays and black. And the bathroom was very dark with the charcoal/black marble. Very sleek. But despite the lighting. Still felt incredibly dark. Didn’t love that. Aesthetically I found the hotel a bit underwhelming. Despite the bold, dramatic use of color, it still comes off a bit cold. I didn’t look at the furnishings anywhere and feel wowed or impressed. The reception area looked like it could kind of be anywhere. Had a hard time getting a sense of place. The indoor breakfast/light dining area also doubles as the bar/indoor light dining area at night. Just a kind of weird flow. Very colorful and good attempt at trying to have personality. But came off as more of a very high end airport lounge than what it was. The outdoor Garden area was very pretty. Great for drinks, outdoor dining. Service was inconsistent. Never went to the Spa. But heard it is definitely one of the highlights of the hotel. Overall, I am conflicted with my opinion. It was quite good in some respects, but not enough to say I would definitely stay here again or not. Still very glad...
