Villa Varenna — Hotel in Perledo

Beware of this place – stay away We made reservation for 2 rooms for 2 couples for 4 days in June 2016. When we arrived there, we first found out that it is not really in Varenna as advertised but up a stiff hill in Perlido to which the access is only by foot climbing up from the (paid) parking place. We had to wait around 20 minutes for the caretaker to open the gate. He took us the rooms, one room was nice but the other room, the patio annex was small and adjacent to the kitchen with a common door, a kitchen that served also as a breakfast area. The room was extremely small like a "servant" room unfitted for a couple with luggage. Furthermore the heating system was not working and the room was unbearably hot, it was mid-June mind you, and very hot outside, the radiator was broken and on and would not shut down. The owner was not there, nor was he available or willing to speak with us on the phone. We told the caretaker that we cannot stay there and he called the owner, who refused to talk with us directly and told us that we do not have to stay there, promised that we will not be charged for the first night (and obviously for the remaining nights), called for us another hotel in Varenna to make reservation where we ended up staying. However, a big SURPRISE: WE WERE CHARGED THE FULL RATE FOR 4 NIGHTS AND 2 ROOMS!!! Contrary to what we were told and agreed upon. All negotiations were done with the caretaker only, not the owner, who never talked with us or saw us. Thereafter, there was an exchange of mails, explaining the situation to the phantom owner, which became very aggressive and unpleasant. In short, we were cheated in daylight! We did notify Booking through which we made the reservation which in return, called the owner to no avail. We were told by Booking that they have never experienced such an event, (neither did we) and the phone number of the owner was changed hence unreachable. Needless to mention that our supposedly relaxed vacation was tainted with aggravation and time consuming to contact the owner back and forth and by a significant loss of money which we can only consider an outright theft! Warning: avoid the place...

Was meant to stay here as a couple but to unforeseen divorce I travelled on my own to a wedding, and they have made me feel so welcome, they have been very caring and they do a very good job of making sure you are catered for. This villa is perfect, and the views are stunning||Coffee and breakfast every day was very nice, and the location is perfect, far enough away from the noise but close enough to walk to the main strip, and right near the ferry and train stations. ||The room was fantastic, bed was very comfortable and the shower was nice and powerful/hot. ||The Balcony and the view ❤️❤️❤️❤️ if I come back, I won’t look anywhere else, this was everything I needed and more||Thank you for welcoming me to your lovely home, sending all my love to you two and Roosevelt the...

Enjoyed our stay for 2 nights while visiting Varenna/Como. The family who own and operate this place are very friendly (as is Roosevelt, their dog.) Enjoyed their breakfast service and loved sitting out on the shared patio to watch the sunset over the lake and play cards. No elevators in the building, so mind that anything you bring, you may be hauling upstairs. There was A/C in the room, but still a little on the hotter side in July -- I imagine ideal in the Spring/Fall to visit. 5 minutes walk from train station (just go down the stairs on the left/south side coming out, east around the corner, then back up the road...
