We encountered many problems during our stay at Residenza Luigina. One of the most serious problems was the property manager informed us Americans were not welcome at Residenza Luigina. Not only were we met with bigotry, their property description and amenities are misleading. The description indicates a security deposit is required. One week before arrival we were told the deposit must be in cash (euros). It is not returned to you until the last day when you are required to meet with the landlady to receive your cash. This could be a problem if you are at the end of your trip and left with foreign currency. TV is advertised. It never worked. Internet is advertised. We were only able to get internet for about 30 seconds and only in the kitchen area. The description indicates you must dispose of your garbage. It doesn’t say you must carry it more than ¼ mile to town. The description indicates a walking path to town. It is actually a narrow shoulder of a busy, unlit, very, very steep road that includes a set of dangerous steep steps. Pool towels are advertised but none were provided and only two bath and hand towels per person. Not enough for a lengthy stay. The furniture is sparse and uncomfortable. The lower floor has a bedroom and bathroom while the upper floor has a kitchen-living room arrangement. Beware that separating these two floors is a steep spiral staircase. No dresser or drawers in the bedroom to put your clothes. No safe for your valuables. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking but had no paper towels, wash cloths, or any sundries you need. In the living room there is a gorgeous view...
Read moreVery modern and clean property with a balcony and stunning views over Lake Como. Very close to train station so easy to walk (but don't worry - sounds of trains are not bothersome - and you really don't hear at all with the doors closed.) Short 10 minute walk to Ferry and another 5 to town with some hills involved, but this was welcome after all the good food and wine! Be careful if you are looking for a place for a couple - you can easily sign up just for the studio (which we did at first) and find yourself sleeping on a sofa bed! Glad I caught that mistake before we traveled. ||||The apartment was very nice and well-equipped. Wifi was strong and worked wonderfully. Bed was comfortable. Nice to have the balcony to sip a glass of wine and watch the sun set. Too early in the season for us to use the pool, so can't comment on that. Came with coffee and tea enough for the stay as well as salt, pepper and napkins - - very much appreciated as these are hard to buy for a short stay of 4 days. Suggest property to add a roll of paper towel. ||||Alessia was very welcoming host and flexible to work around our changing arrival as trains were delayed. She shared all of the details and suggested restaurants, grocery and ferry options. No need to walk garbage down the street as garbage cans are provided in the garage. Loved the features and ability to prepare our own breakfast. Would have given a 5 rating if it was not for the high cleaning fee added to the rate - and another set of bath towels would be welcome. I would definitely stay here again if in Varenna, which I highly recommend over other Lake...
Read moreWe had a nice 4 night stay in the Varenna Studio on the 4th floor. The location was great with a short walk to the waters of Lake Como and town center. A very small portion of this walk is on a shoulder of a road which can be tricky at night but it'll only be a quick couple of minutes. The apartment was comfortable, showers had nice hot water, the deck was a nice space to relax except we discovered hundreds if not thousands of ants on the ceiling of the deck..it could have been the affect of the rain. They seem to stay outside so just don't look up on the deck! The host Alessia was very responsive and helpful! There are a few things with the apartment and it's policies that you should be aware of: 1. internet is very weak. 2. TV channels are mostly in arabic which is annoying when the wifi signal is weak and you can't stream anything with your laptop to unwind in the evening or during a rainy day. 3. You have to take the trash out upon your departure even though they charge a $50 cleaning fee as part of your stay. 4. Their payment policy is such that you pay in full when you check in and on top of that, a $200 euro safety deposit. Lake Como was our last destination before returning home and= felt very strongly about not wanting to have that currency leftover so, Alessia was able to work with us on that. As a recommendation to the property, a better policy that is more of the norm, would have been for the safety deposit to apply to your payment at check out. Having said all that, we had...
