Let's start with the great....the service here is fabulous!!!!! Their communication prior to arrival is punctual and clear. They will meet u at the train if requested. They r there in seconds to help carry luggage up/down the stairs. They r so customer focused and really want u to love their place and have a wonderful experience. It's obvious they r proud of their rentals and make efforts to do the best possible for their guests. They will seriously bend over backward to make your trip positive. The location is right near the water entry so if you're going to take a ferry to one of the other towns, it's easy access. Also easy to get to the train station. Several restaurants r nearby, including one just next to the front door. There's also a top or bottom entry into the rental so u can use whichever if nearest. It's a very historic building and was nice to b able to c the town and water out r window. AC worked well and felt very safe in this location. Appears bathroom was redone and upgrades made in the room in general. If u like coffee in the morning, there's a keurig type machine set up in the room. If u have 3 people, there's an option for a room with a pull out bed. They also generously offer free lockers for luggage if you need a place to keep your items for a couple hours.
Online info lists this accommodation as a 3 star and AI says it's 2 star. I would probably agree with the AI rating. As long as u go in knowing that and expecting a motel/room type rental (not hotel), expectations should b appropriate. However, I'm amazed that I don't c anything in the reviews about the treacherous staircase to access the rooms. It's steeper than any staircase I've ever seen. In their defense, it seems to b the same in other neighboring buildings as well, but as someone agile and with good balance, it still was scary. Fortunately, again, the staff is more than willing to handle ur luggage. However, if ur going to leave ur room, u still have to navigate it and pray that u don't go tumbling. There r other things that weren't my favorite, but if I keep in mind the hotel rating, it should b expected. Bedding was ok, but not plush. They've obviously made efforts to renovate (can't imagine how hard that is in a building like this one), but high touch areas in the room need some attention. Bathroom is quite dark so additional lighting would b helpful.
In general, Riomaggiore is pretty sleepy. If we were to do it again, we would stay in Monterosso. It has much better water, beaches and buzz without being...
Read moreVery disappointed in this studio although its located in a lovely lively street . Started badly when we waited at the wrong apartment for the owner , it is not made clear that the address on the original booking is different from the annexe apartment !! The walk from the railway station is hard with suitcases as the apartment is at the top of the steep Main Street and the stairs to the first floor are very steep ! Would have appreciated some help from the owner. When we arrived in the apartment we discovered there was a double bed , we had booked twin beds and had emailed the owner to check this 3 weeks before !! She had emailed and told us the studio had 2 double beds which was not true . The apartment has been nicely decorated . The bathroom has a shower which only seems to run on cold or Luke warm , the shower floods and the bathroom door will not close due to the damage caused by the flooding . The tv is not a flat screen it's a big old one with 2 channels this want a problem to us but its just another misrepresentation . The worse problem for a self catering apartment is the kitchen area, the fridge had been left switched off so ice box was swimming with water, the shelves were rusty, the seals mouldy and it stank also the door came off its hinges if ||you were not careful . We complained to Michela the owner, she tried to clean it with a cloth but really it needs chucking !! We couldn't use it or food . The grill/ microwave was also dirty covered with the last guests toast which as I am coeliac put me off using it for my gluten free bread. Lack of equipment is also a problem , no corkscrew, sharp knives , one wine glass etc. we felt the young owner needs to realise the importance of hygiene and decent working equipment when renting self catering accommodation especially when charging 120 euros a night! Wouldn't stay here again as there are plenty of other places that are better...
Read moreI stayed in the apartment at Via Colombo 66. This is the central street of Riomaggiore. The apartment has a single glass pane and is therefore quite nosy. We could hear in the apartment all evening long the live band playing outside, afterwards we could hear the young people screaming, that were leaving from the bars, until about 2:00 am and as of 07:00 am we could hear the trucks and suppliers that arrived. The only quiet time was during daytime, when we were not in the apartment. So it’s certainly not a place for a good night’s sleep and it wasn’t the rustic Cinque Terre experience I expected. ||||Furthermore, there is no flat screen TV as mentioned on the booking website, the toilet is partly broken and the shower is very primitive; it’s small and it has a curtain that is annoying when showering (because it sticks to your body). ||||The apartment is also hard to reach with suitcases. We had to find our own way with two suitcases and no one was awaiting us, as other property owners do. Upon arrival, the apartment wasn’t ready, although it should have been as check in is possible as of 3:00 pm and we arrived afterwards. After arrival, the apartment still had to be cleaned after the previous guests had left. ||||Because of the noise, we decided to leave after one night, even though we paid for two nights. When we arrived we already told the owner about our hesitations, but she referred to the conditions (meaning that 120 euro’s would be charged in the case of...
