One of most beautiful places in Italy is Cinque Terre.

The Cinque Terre literally means "five lands" in Italian. The Five Lands are five small fishing villages located one behind the other in one of the most picturesque corners of the Ligurian coast.

Riomaggiore is the southernmost village of the Five Lands. It is the second largest village out of five. It is especially appreciated by romantics, sailing up to it from the sea at sunset, enjoying the stepped houses along the small port and the pastel glow of the setting sun reflected in the sea. Here, as well as in other villages, you can go hiking along picturesque paths, and for lovers of nightlife, it can be considered the most party place among...

This should be your first stop when you hop off the train in Riomaggiore. It’s a 10 minute walk from the station, up hill most of the way, but it seems there’s also an elevator up the cliff side you can take. From the castle, you will have amazing views of all of Riomaggiore’s coastline and main town street. You can get a sense of the town’s layout and will be centrally located to pick where you want to go next. Plus of course, amazing photo...

The climb up to the castle is tough, but so rewarding for the views and the church. The castle costs €4 each for what? Same views, a room full of information available on the internet mostly not related to the castle. Scaffolding and barriers preventing access to large areas. The woman who took our cash was on the phone all the time so no questions. Save your money for a gelato, it'll last longer than the visit,...

A Scenic Climb to a Hidden Gem Castello di Riomaggiore is a small but beautiful castle perched above the colorful village. It offers stunning views and a peaceful spot to take in the charm of the Cinque Terre. Just a heads-up—getting there is a bit of a climb from the train station, so be sure to wear good hiking or walking shoes. The effort is well worth it for this quiet, scenic escape.

Castello di Riomaggiore crowns the village with its 13th-century stone walls and commanding sea views. Originally built for defense, it now offers a peaceful terrace to take in the colorful rooftops and coastline. The climb up is steep but short, and the reward is a quiet, scenic spot above the bustle of the harbor. A must for photographers and anyone seeking a panoramic pause.
