I love everything about Riomaggiore and I was soooo excited to get a mixed cone from here. It's a cute little shop, looked very busy and I couldn't wait to try and see what all the hype was about.
I came inside and I was a little bummed out because there were flies all over the inside of the food heaters where they put all the fried seafood. I mean, a little contamination never hurt anyone... So I did end up getting what I intended to get. I mean, it's not every day I am in Italy. I was trying to savor the moment.
Although there were flies all over the food area, the mixed cones were okay. I was more into the experience of being in another country and the beauty of this place itself.
Try it because you're there... Don't expect the best, but you're in...

Had to do a lot of actions to finally get the message across. Had a onion foccacia and Pesto Lasagna. They have a few more vegetarian options. The pesto in Cinque Terre is supposed to be popular but we didn't find it special and in fact it lacked any taste and they had french beans and pesto in the pesto lasagna that we ordered. Not sure if long french beans are even an italian thing. The foccacia tasted good and the sea salt over the bread made it extra tasty. Read moreThis is a pretty noticeable little pizza shop on the main street in Riomaggiore. I think it definitely is a "tourist" destination, but the pizza slices were a decent size and not too bad.
We also tried the fried calamari mix, which was pretty good! Obviously it's not super healthy, but I think what made the experience worthwhile, was taking the food to go, buying a cold bottle of wine (8 euros) and walking along the street, which I would definitely recommend, especially with good weather!
They have a wine opener that they leave up front, so you can open the bottle yourself, grab however many cups you need and head out to sit...
