Very disappointing stay – Bed bugs and no support from staff
We stayed at the Rome River Inn for two nights and unfortunately got bitten by bed bugs during our stay. My feet are covered in itchy bites – an extremely unpleasant and distressing experience that completely ruined our visit.
I reported the issue at check-out, but sadly, I was not taken seriously. The woman at the reception told me they make the beds every day, so a bed bug infestation would be impossible. This response shows a lack of understanding – bed bugs have nothing to do with cleanliness and are a known risk in places with high guest turnover.
I also sent an email two days ago and followed up with a WhatsApp message yesterday to file an official complaint – so far, I have received no response. This lack of communication is very disappointing, especially given the seriousness of the issue.
If I continue to receive no reply, I am considering reporting the incident to the local health authorities.
Conclusion: Dealing with bed bugs and being completely ignored by the hotel staff is unacceptable. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend the Rome River Inn.
Update: Very disappointed and frustrated that no one responded on my Email or WhatsApp Message so far. I just got a “response “ here what shows me that the Rome River Inn doesn’t care about my issue. If this would be a professional Hotel you would try to respond me on my messages and find a solution… I was camping with my boyfriend before our stay in the hotel- for sure- and I’ve got Mosquito bites too. That is totally right. But the type of bite I’ve got when I woke up in the Hotel room was different. I haven’t had these type of bites our whole camping trip. They showed up in a row, turned very red and were itchy for days. As you can see in the picture there are red spots very close to each other which is typical for bed bugs because they don’t get a vessel on the first bite. I am a health care worker just like my whole family, so I know what I am talking about. Other people that stayed there in Room may just have thought that these were some Mosquito bites and have no Idea what it...
Read moreRooms - extra large and comfortable bed, we could have slept 4 in it. Overall room comfortable and big, but bathroom had black grout/mould running along the edges of the shower. Overall ok clean but I would think that cleaning standards are not the same as that of a regular hotel. Not tea/coffee facilities within the room, there is a machine in reception for this. ||Noise - beware that bedroom door and walls are paper thin, you can follow every conversation in the next room, hear people’s alarm clocks in the morning, and traffic noise is quite bad. Our room was directly located onto a busy main artery with heavy car traffic from 06:00 until 23:00, windows are not double glazed and despite shutters and curtains, it felt as if the window was open onto traffic all night. I asked to change rooms after the first night which the hotel manager kindly accepted to look into, by my young daughter (who can sleep through anything) didn’t want to give up the huge bed.||WiFi - not great, one dot maximum at all times and frequently needed several attempts to connect to, which were unsuccessful 70% of the time. Mostly gave up and used 4G instead.||Reception - it was manned by a lovely lady when we arrived in the morning, but it was explained to us that staff are usually operating at the main sister hotel and not here. They gave us a phone number in order to what’s app them should we need anything. Staff when seen very helpful and friendly.||Breakfast - situated in the main sister hotel, a 2-3 min walk away. Food ok, cold buffet of 2-3 types of cheeses, cured ham and a couple of pastries. But feeling is that food stuff was lying there for hours and not very fresh. Don’t look for many options either. We went on the first day and did not bother going back afterwards. ||Location - great. 2 min walk only from campo de fiori.||Overall, not quite what I would call a real hotel (more of an isolated annex), but then again I only paid 453 EUR...

Before booking our three-night stay at this charming boutique hotel, I read numerous glowing reviews—and I must say, the experience not only met but exceeded all expectations.
From the moment we confirmed our reservation to the time we checked out, the service was simply outstanding. The hotel arranged seamless transportation both upon arrival and departure, and even thoughtfully prepared breakfast for our early morning airport transfer—without us having to ask.
The reception staff were warm and attentive, offering all the necessary information with grace and professionalism. We were welcomed with wine upon arrival, fresh water bottles delivered daily, and complimentary coffee always available in the cozy lobby.
Breakfast was served at a partner hotel just a short walk away and featured a wide variety of fresh and delicious options—a delightful start to each day.
The staff throughout our stay were consistently courteous, professional, and genuinely eager to assist. The location couldn’t be more ideal—overlooking the river and within easy walking distance to all of Rome’s must-see attractions.
Our room was spacious, spotlessly clean, and fully equipped with thoughtful amenities like a mini fridge, quality toiletries, and complimentary bottled water.
To those with higher expectations: if you’re seeking five-star opulence, book accordingly. But make no mistake—River Inn deserves its solid four-star rating, and then some.
I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Rome. Thank you, River Inn, for your exceptional hospitality. We look forward...
