We, a family, booked a holiday through TUI in Sorrento. We chose La Meridiana as it was affordable, close to Sorrento centre, but also looked very clean and suited our needs as a staging post. Well, it exceeded our expectations. I started learning Italian a couple of months before the trip, which helped a lot. Although many of the locals can speak English to a good degree, they do appreciate the attempts.|Staff: The staff were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant staff were great, and I made a couple of friends of them whilst trying to practice my Italian. I have to give special attention to Isodoro, who taught me some more, and to another who's name I did not get, but I referred to as 'Mio Amico'. Their sense of humour made my holiday. 'Mio amico' was fun and gave me lot of Dolce after evening meal. To Isodoro and 'Mon amico', "è stato un piacere, e spero di rivederti presto".||Hotel: Although only a 3*, I think this is a little low. The hotel was clean, to the point of spotless. The cleaning ladies work very hard. The rooms have air conditioning, which was a godsend when it's 35 degs outside. As for location, La Meridiana is well situated within close proximity to the town. There is also a small 'lemon' shop opposite, where they sell lots of Limocello and other 'cello' drinks. And you can also make your own lemonade. There is also a lemon and orange grove right next to the hotel. I would recommend this hotel to any of my family. However, if you want a pool, look elsewhere.||Food: We stayed on a half board booking. Breakfast: If you want an English style fry up, then stay in England. They have a close attempt, but not so good. However, the omelette is good. I went for the cheese and meats, and then the cakes and croisants. My lads also did the same. The pistacio croissants and the fruit tarts.... amazing. How I didn't leave there 2 stone heavier, I do not know. |Dinner: Dinner was sometimes hit or miss. At breakfast you get given a menu and you choose what you'd like. The food varied from good to great. Sometimes I'd look at another table and get food envy. I'm not a lover of pasta, but the spaghetti carbobara was just the best I'd ever tasted. The lemon cake.... amazing. I could go on. ||All I can say from myself and my family, thank you La Meridiana for making our stay a fantastic one. And one day we hope to see you again. And hopefully my Italian will be...
Read moreWe stayed a week at La Meridiana in Sorrento Italy. The hotel is conveniently situated close to the centre of town and is an easy walking distance to all amenities for shopping and travel. The room was clean and bright with housekeeping daily. Breakfast is fresh with a lot of variety and one coffee is prepared for you. You’ll need to choose a breakfast time slot of the three available on a schedule. Be aware that the rooms advertised are not balcony rooms. A balcony room with a view is an additional 30 euros per night paid at the hotel reception desk so you need to contact them before you arrive to book this type of room. Be advised that check in is 4pm! La Meridiana is an updated older building with little soundproofing so you’ll get to know your room neighbours well and enjoy the street & traffic noise 24/7. Basic things like a daily bottle of water per person is NOT included but you’ll be generously given one bottle of water for the room to last your entire stay! We had one bottle for the two of us to last seven days!!! The bar fridge is stocked with water and drinks at an additional cost. Be prepared to pay an additional 50 euros deposit for a key to your room safe conveniently built into the wall of your room. Refundable of course, as long as you don’t lose it. There’s no iron or ironing board and they’ll only provide you with one key to the room to share with your partner.(so you can’t leave the AC turned on when you’ve left to sight see to return to a cool room) Lastly you won’t be able make yourself a tea or coffee in your room as this basic facility wasnt provided. The internet connection was good and we didn’t have a problem over our stay. The staff were polite and helpful and spoke conversational English well. Overall, a clean basic 3 star hotel missing some of the usual expectations of convenience that other 3 star hotels provide...

The breakfast is self service, with eggs bacon beans and toast, pancakes, cereals, yogurts hans cheeses, muffins, pastries, cakes, doughnuts juices and hot drinks. You are provided with a menu to select your evening meal, if there was nothing to suit e.g for fussy children, you just ask a they kindly suggest appropriate alternatives. There is a choice of 3 first course, 3 main course and 2 desserts.. Food is tasty well cooked and promptly served. We stayed in a triple room on the back of the hotel the double glass doors opened out with a view of the mountains. Rooms have air conditioning, a safe a fridge. We took a travel kettle and tea bags with us. There is a lift to all floors. We visited end of March start of April and had temps of 22 to 23 degrees every day. Use local transport rather than expensive organised travel agency tour trips, it is easy and will save a fortune. Plus you will meet people from all corners of the world. The hotel is a 2 minute walk from the seafront. And a lovely bar overlooking the bay. Most people spoke English and were kind and helpful. The roof terrace had breathtaking views day and night across the bay to Vesuvius. We hope to return to this hotel and...
