I had previously stayed at this hotel some 5 years ago, at which time I found it to be acceptable and, on balance, worth a recommendation. However I feel that they have failed to move with the times and have fallen behind somewhat.||The location remains ideal with the Alilaguna link to the airport only 3 minutes from the hotel and the train station an easy 5-10 minute walk. Vaporetta stops are located a convenient 2-3 minutes away as are several good restaurants.||Our bedroom was comfortable, clean and of adequate size but I was disappointed to find small areas of discoloured or flaking paintwork. I accept that it is an historic building which retains many authentic features but to maintain the decor would require little effort.||A greater disappointment is the breakfast which is served in a covered courtyard to the rear of the hotel. The setting has great potential but again, very little effort has been made to make it attractive. It was late at night and the last thing we wanted to do was wheel our bags back down the street and find another hotel last minute, but we had to.|In trying to resolve this with the front desk and Expedia, the hotel lied constantly about the state of the room, and even claimed we said we would be coming back for the second night and they had to hire a night receptionist, despite us clearly saying we would book somewhere else.|It's one of those places that's old and run down, with old stubborn, arrogant management, that have zero interest in customer care. Add to that a clear damp problem and its a recipe for a disastrous experience and no sleep. Please, please avoid, there are much better, even average places for...
