When booking this hotel I was a little bit afraid because of some of the comments on Google but they were quickly changed when I actually arrived. This hotel's problem is that's it's misunderstood. First, a lot of people that comment negative on this place seem to forget that's it's situated in a floating museum. Venice is old and the building reflect that. People looking for modern sleek hotels are looking at the wrong city if they expect that in Venice.
The price of this hotel is well worth the value. There is a couple of nice hotels in Venice, but they will cost double the price of this hotel. The hotel is noisy, again because of its age. The building is a typical Venician building so you will hear everything. If your a coupe looking for a quiet place, not the hotel for you.
People gave out about the elevator here too. I didn't use it but I could see its a micro elevator fitted into a old building, so I don't know what people were expecting. I'd imagine it's slow because of safety. There is a lot of stairs in this building you will need to use if on the upper floors, but again it a Venice thing, you will walk up more steps than ever in this city.
The room itself was good. Bathroom was clean and had heating and hot water all the time. The bed was clean (checked it over and over) and was cleaned every day along with the room, so can't complain at all. It had signs of age and a few chips here and there but again, it's Venice. I was honestly expecting worse and was relieved when I arrived and seen it for myself.
The breakfast was great. Again I didn't expect much here because of my experience in Rome with breakfast included (was awful in Rome). But this hotel was a million times better. I was very happy with it. The coffee is made barista style by staff and they were really nice and helpful.
Overall, I was happy with this place. The only negative thing I will say is check in is at 2pm and they have no bag drop. They do say you can leave your bad in the lobby towards the back, but I wouldn't recommend leaving any valuables, because people can freely move about the back, so just keep them with you. I never sit and write a long review about places but I wanted to write one here because I think this place deserves a little bit more credit than it gets in some reviews online. I would definitely stay here again if...
Read moreWe are not complainers. So if you are a complainer stop reading, this review will not help you. This review may be helpful for those non-complainers like us. The staff were very friendly, knowledgeable, and spoke English well. The hotel has a lift that works dispute other reviews. The rooms were bigger than expected. The furnishings were simple and provided enough hangers for them to be useful. The bed mattress was a spring construction but comfortable. As with all our European hotels, the walls are thin and conversations were easily audible from adjacent rooms. The bathroom which included a toilet, bidet, single person shower, and sink was larger than most bathrooms we have had. The towel warmer was a nice addition and made up for the poor excuse for the hair dryer. They provided nice towels that smelled and looked clean. Both for the shower and bidet. They also provided soaps for the shower, showercaps, and cups. We stayed on the fourth floor and enjoyed a nice view, windows opened easily and let in fresh air. If you are staying here on a Friday or Saturday we recommend making a reservation for the Frary's Mediterranean restaurant. It's is the best place we ate in Italy. And on weekends they book up quickly. They are one of the top restaurants in town. The hotel is well situated just off the main tourist streets and only a block and a half from train depot. Our only recommendation is to fix the AC unit. It made such a horrible sound all night, but being on the top floor our room stayed to warm to turn it off. The other option is to add a screen on the two side windows so they can be opened at night. Mosquitos joined us the first night. Breakfast had many waitresses and helpers. Breakfasts in Europe are light and simple, if you are used to a heavy meal in the morning you might bring some oatmeal or head out to eat. Overall this was the best hotel we stayed...
Read moreLocation was great, as it was next to Venice St.Lucia railway station. The rooms are not double glazed, due to the age of Venice buildings. This is not a great hotel if you come to Venice to enjoy a holiday in peace. I visited Venice when the temperatures was 25 degrees but felt like 30 degrees. The hotel said the air conditioning does not turn on until 1st June because of Venice laws . The room felt like an oven and I could not open the balcony windows, as there are plenty of mosquitos. Other hotels in Venice had their air conditioning on, as I went to hotels to ask the reception. When the hotel finally gave into my demands to turn it on, the air conditioning was useless. Had it on the lowest temperature setting at 5 degrees and it did not blow out cold air. Had it on for several hours when I went out and the room temperature was still the same. On top of that, I had a group of students who made a lot of noise on the early hours of the morning. Complained to the hotel manager but she was very obnoxious. She didn't seem to care. I read reviews about how good the breakfast is at the hotel. I completely disagree. Hardly any choice. Croissant was good and the coffee was barista style but the fruit salad was from the tin. Not fresh at all. I paid over £400 (470 euros). I felt this hotel was a complete rip off. I came with my elderly parents and I wrote an email to the hotel and they said that area is non tourists and it is quiet. The area was full of tourists and even busier at night. Had stragglers from their night out making noise. This hotel is not great if you are a light sleeper. Please spend your money elsewhere. Best place to stay, which I found on my last day in Venice was Dorsoduro region. Very quiet and such lovely views. Can get great photos of the sunset. If you made it this far, DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY...
