Terrible Experience – Broken Glass in Room & Rude Service
We had an extremely disappointing stay. We booked a room with two king beds for four people through Priceline. Upon arrival, the man at the front desk was immediately rude and claimed we had to pay an extra $100 for the kids—despite our reservation clearly stating it was for four guests. Even after showing him confirmation from Priceline customer service, he refused to acknowledge it. We ultimately agreed to pay the extra just to avoid further conflict.
The room initially looked decent, but things quickly took a turn. My husband stepped on something sharp in the carpet and injured his foot—it started bleeding. Upon closer inspection, we discovered tiny shards of glass embedded in the carpet. There was no one at the front desk to help, so we texted the same man. Instead of addressing the issue, he accused us of breaking the glass ourselves.
Later, he entered the room with a cleaning lady and again insisted we were responsible, even though we showed him all four provided glasses were still intact and untouched. He continued to be rude and dismissive, and when we asked him to leave the room, he refused and kept repeating that it was “his property.”
On top of all that, the shower tub wouldn’t drain properly and began backing up after just five minutes—though this was a minor inconvenience compared to the overall unprofessional and hostile behavior we experienced.

The location of Friendly Venice Suites is great—right in the heart of Venice—but unfortunately, that’s where the positives end. I had an awful experience with the host, Giacomo, who treated me and my mother with complete disrespect upon our late arrival.
We showed up at 11:30 PM due to a late train, and instead of a basic welcome, we were met with yelling and aggression. Giacomo demanded to know where we were and made us feel completely unsafe. He refused to let us check in unless we handed over our passports, and when I explained that he could take a photo but not keep them, he argued with me for over 15 minutes. It was stressful, humiliating, and completely uncalled for.
He claimed check-in was only allowed until 10 PM—even though the property is listed as a hotel and doesn’t clearly communicate any strict check-in cut-off on the platform we booked through. He told us he was “doing us a favor” by letting us in and acted like we were a burden the entire time. The worst part? After seeing our American passports, he made a racially insensitive comment, which was absolutely unacceptable.
I ended up asking him to leave our room because his attitude was so aggressive and unprofessional. This is not a hotel in the traditional sense, and the host clearly lacks the hospitality mindset. I do not recommend this place to anyone, especially if you expect kindness, flexibility, or...
Read moreMy husband and I traveled from Texas, US to Venice for the first time to celebrate our retirement and 40th wedding anniversary. After a long flight, challenging water bus journey (because it was all new to us), we arrived at the hotel we’d booked months in advance only to find the AC wasn’t working. We searched for another hotel and thankfully, we found Friendly Venice Suites! We called to see if there was a room available and to get directions—getting around Venice proved challenging! The owner, Giacomo, met us at the statue just outside the hotel and walked us there personally. We were so relieved to feel cool air when we walked in! Then, we were blown away by the accommodations of our room which was not just a room, but a beautiful suite! It was such a nice surprise! The room had every comfort you could imagine. Giacomo was also very gracious in helping us find things and giving directions. If you ever find yourself in Venice, don’t hesitate to stay at Friendly Venice Suites! You will be well cared for! Out of a 5 star recommendation, I’d give it a 10. Five just isn’t enough....
