The hotel was highly recommended by our travel agent. She booked a Classic room for us back in May for travel in October. When we arrived at the hotel we were assigned a small, smelly room on the 3rd floor (elevator to 2nd floor and a steep flight of steps up to the room). The double bed in the room was tucked between two walls making it impossible to enter the bed from the sides. The only access was from the foot of the bed. The room was at the top of the building so the ceiling was partially slanted making it impossible to stand in certain parts of the already tiny room.
When porter brought us into the room, I requested that we be moved to a Classic room which we reserved and not this attic room that was assigned. The porter called the front desk and put me on the line. The desk clerk said we would have to spend the 1st night in this room and he would see if he could move us the next day. I had the porter take our bags down to the lobby and was transferred over to the manager by the desk clerk. After looking over the available rooms the manager said that he would upgrade us to a Superior room at no extra charge. We were shown to a rather remote Classic room which we accepted after the initial nightmare room assigned. It was not a Superior room as the manager stated.
Additionally, during the stay we found the staff to be very unfriendly. No smiles or friendly greetings in the lobby or breakfast room. In fact when we checked out no one even offered to have a porter help us with our bags with which we were obviously struggling. I am not sure how this hotel gets better than medicore reviews. The first room we were assigned was atrocious. The clerk should be ashamed of his attempt to assign such a room when it was clear we reserved a Classic room at $350 per night.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. There are many other hotels in Venice for $350 per night which I am sure would offer appropriate (and as reserved) accommodations and guest treatment. I'm also not sure who designated this hotel as 4 star. The place is 2 star at best.
By the way we were in the main hotel complex and not in the annex down the street like some of the other reviewers.
Do yourself a favor and pass on the Ca dei Conti. You can do much better for the price and have a pleasant, accomodating stay. I discussed the treatment we experienced with our travel agent. She is going to relay our experience and alert her staff members that arrange hotels in Venice for the agency's clients.

Read moreThis used to be our 'go-to' hotel in Venice - we went back for the third time last week having been so impressed with it before. However, it seems the previous times we had just been lucky with upgrades because their 'Classic/Comfort' rooms are dreadful and nothing like the photos. The whole hotel is also getting very tired and run-down and could desperately use a refurb.
We were first shown a room we could barely move around in with a tiny bed with walls either end of the bed. My husband is 6"6 so won't have been able to fit (normally his feet have to hang out over the end of the bed but this is not possible when hemmed in). This room also was in the "annex" which is another building away from the main hotel. Not good.
We complained immediately and they showed us to a new room in the attic of the main hotel; this was cute but very low ceiling so my tall husband couldn't stand up in it. Clean enough but too small and not well laid out. Again, getting very tired and needing a refurb.
The next day they moved us to another room with more head-height. This one was OK but again, nothing like the photos and this was the most tired of the lot! A very dark room with huge amounts of scuff marks on the walls, dull bathroom tiles and black grouting where it just needs a good scrub and, to be honest, a complete reburb. Even a quick paint job would make a huge difference but the attention to detail was lacking. We also kept being woken up late at night and early in the morning by the housekeeping team having loud conversations on their phones in the corridors.
As multiple returning customers, we hoped to have been given a slightly nicer room, not their lowest-grade ones.
I stuck to 3 stars because the staff are all lovely and they did try to help us when we complained about the rooms. Although they did offer us a complimentary processo which never arrived.... I would rather they didn't offer anything than offer something and forget which almost makes it worse!
Thank you for our third stay but I think our time is done here until you have done a nice big refurb and tarted the tired-looking place up a bit.
PS: Be careful with mosquitoes in November in Venice - we had no idea they would still be around so left our window open at night but were...
Read moreThe location of the hotel is very good, unfortunately that is all that I can say is positive about our stay here. Initially we were placed in a room that wasn't part of the main hotel, located around 100m away in an old building. The room was exceptionally tiny, with access to the double bed via one side only (the other side lay flush with the wall). Although we could have delt with this, the standard of cleanliness was extremely poor - particularly in the bathroom, where the shower doors wouldn't even shut properly, flooding the room with water when using the shower. After one night we requested to move rooms and they did accommodate us with a better room. However, as with the first room, the heating controls did not work and the room was baking hot. The water in the shower kept running cold. The ceilings were also very low and, as two 6ft tall people, it was difficult to navigate. Following the first night in the second room we both woke up covered in bug bites, with my suspicion being they came from the bed, as googling comparisons of mosquito versus bed bug bites revealed ours were more like bed bug bites. When it came time to check out there was no one at reception and we had to shout for attention for around 5 minutes; definitely not what you would expect for a 4 star hotel. The pictures of the rooms were clearly taken a long time ago and the hotel has not been updated, with damp in the bathroom and excessive wear and tear elsewhere. There were no facilities in the room to make tea or coffee, and although I'm not sure if it is listed as an amenity, it is fairly standard these days, even in budget hotels. The breakfast was okay, with pastry options available, but the hot food selection was luke warm and tasted stale. I would definitely not return to this hotel and advise anyone planning on staying here to look for...
