After dinner on our first night in Venice, we decide to just wander around and get lost. As we strolled through one of the classic narrow passageways, we suddenly emerge into what can best be described as a community's vast town square. Kids playing soccer in front of the local church, their parents gathered to talk, eat, drink, and enjoy life. It felt as if we were transported to another era. Off to the side of the square was Taverna Capitan Uncino, with its outdoor tables calling to us to sit and have a drink. Who are we to resist the kind invitation? That night we sat and took in the surroundings of the real Venice. The service was friendly (Linda ---I believe it is Marilinda--- was a true joy), the drinks were flavorful, and the environment was what you imagine the true Venice would be. We felt as if we were part of a neighborhood gathering. We sat and took it all in. Then, one of the waiters pushed a cart of freshly grilled Branzino right past my wife and she declared that this would be our dinner destination the next night. It was. The next night, we came back and my wife satiated her Branzino craving......by the look on her face, I could tell it surpassed her hopeful expectations. All of the food was exceptional, and the whole atmosphere of the evening was why we traveled to Venice: To experience another world. This is a "don't miss" spot. It isn't tourist Venice, it is actual Venice. Our thanks to the servers and entire staff for a...
Read moreBEWARE! RIP OFF SCAM. I am a google guide and I have never had a worst rip off scam. Went there for dinner, even though they had a few bad reviews regarding service. I figure I give it a shot, it was close to my hotel. Got to the table, ordered our food.. Everything seemed normal. When the waiter brought the food out, he hit the coke can when placing the second plate and spilled the some of the coke on the spaghetti plate. He immediately took the plate and took it to change it. I figured it was good service and told him it was fine, it was an accident.... Make the story short.. When I got the bill after paying close attention I realized the price for for spaghetti plate WAS DOUBLED!?!? I called the waiter who took the bill back without saying anything... Another guy came and tried to tell me it was my fault that the coke spilled and I had to pay for two plates...?!?! This was the most ridiculous thing I had heard... So bad that the table next to us started laughing and couldnt believe it either. They tried to make me pay double.. After arguing with them . The manager came and said.. He would give me a discount of 4 Euros?? But charge me for a extra plate... Finally after refusing and arguing with them, they took it off. This was a scam and worst I have ever seen done at a restaurant. Stay away...
Read moreMy friend and I wanted to eat at La Zucca around the corner but they were full so came here as it seemed nice. What a mistake!
Our first waiter was lovely but he was quickly called inside and lambasted (I can only assume for being friendly). The pizza was fine and everything seemed okay until we actually needed some service.
Pigeons had surrounded our table and were trying to pick at our food. My friend waved to the waiter to help us shoo them away and he started cussing at us under his breath and then snatched our complimentary bread basket away and threw the contents into the courtyard outside the restaurant.
But the worst part was trying to pay. We requested to split the bill to which the same waiter told us he couldn't do as he had already printed it out and we should have asked first. After becoming quite aggressive with my friend when she challenged him on this I finally agreed to pay the full balance but their card machine didn't show how much I was being charged and he wouldn't give me my copy.
I'm still waiting to see if I've been overcharged as they haven't requested the money from my bank yet. I'm just glad to see that I'm not alone in my...
