Overall enjoyed my 2 nights here in Kawaguchiko area. The best part of the hostel is the spacious and airy lounge with a huge kitchen attached next to it. The lounge was the best I’ve seen in a hostel with all the amenities you might need. It was such a good spot to chill after dark when there isnt much to do in the area. There were people having an impromptu drink sesh at night which was unseen in other hostels I’ve stayed in Japan.
Now onto the room. The bed and sheets were all comfortable and clean so no complaints there. But it is a bunk bed meaning you lack privacy which you can find in a capsule hotel or other hostels with a curtain.
In terms of noise, everyone i met during the stay were civil and had manners which meant there was not a huge noise other than snores.
In terms of rules, there was a small incident in the laundry room. There was a girl who was waiting to have her laundry done around 9-10 pm simply because there is only one machine in the entire hostel. So inevitably there will be a queue. And this white guy appeared from the room next door and somewhat aggressively told the girl it was too late for laundry as he was getting ready to sleep, when there was a clean sign put up by the owner the laundry can be done until 11 or 12( cant remember exactly) but he had the audacity to impose his own rule onto the girl which I thought was incredibly rude. I understand he is in the room next door and the sound can be disruptive but he could have been more polite and the girl was doing laundry in line with the rules.
The location was okay. A short ride to bus stop and near some sights by the lake but u do need to get on a bus to get anywhere.
Overall, a pleaaant stay and would recommend it to...

Read moreI do believe I finally stayed at a hostel that I legitimately LOVED. I’m very critical of anywhere you have to stay with random strangers in the same room, and this was the best of this kind of lodging I’ve been in.
I was downstairs in a room that had several other beds, but the way that the “bunks” are constructed means that there is practically no sound when people shift around in their beds, even in the ones directly above or below you.
It was honestly a bit more similar in feel to a capsule hotel, as the space of the bed is very large (by Japanese standards, at 6’4” my feet were on the edge of the container which just can’t be helped 🤣) and all constructed of solid wood.
I was able to do laundry for the first time on my 3 week trip and not just wash clothes in the shower, and the kitchen/dining area is large and super nice.
The vibe was incredibly welcoming and it reminded me of the best aspects of some of the albergue hostels I stayed in in Spain, with some people leaving behind free cooking items, so there are basic spices, oil, and they also provide free coffee and tea in the morning.
It really felt like staying at a friend’s house more so than a hotel, and I was able to sleep extremely well which was much-needed after having a cold. Highly...
