Affordable, Modern, and Steps from Kawaguchiko Station
We had a great stay at Tocoro Hostel! The location is unbeatable—literally right across the street from Kawaguchiko Station, but surprisingly quiet for being that close. We stayed in a room that had a partial view of Mount Fuji, which was super helpful for deciding when to head out for photos.
Self check-in was seamless, and the place was way more modern, clean, and well-kept than I expected for a hostel. It felt more like a boutique hotel. There’s a fridge and microwave available, plenty of toiletries (body soap, shampoo, conditioner), and a cozy little dining table stocked with plates, cups, and free green tea—which I loved.
There are plenty of showers and toilets, and I never had to wait. They also have coin-op laundry, which I used in the morning before checkout with zero wait time. Huge bonus for travelers packing light. It’s also just minutes from the Budget car rental, which made our travel day super smooth.
There’s a restaurant downstairs, though we didn’t eat there this time. The hostel is about a 15–20 min walk to Lake Kawaguchiko, and around 35 minutes to a good Mount Fuji viewing spot near the lake.
Only downside: walls are thin, so if you're traveling with (or near) a baby, just be aware sound carries easily.
Overall, I’d absolutely stay here again—affordable, convenient, and incredibly well-kept. A great find for anyone exploring the Fuji...

Read moreThe mattress was horribly dirty, full of dust around the edges, and had items that had not been cleaned from previous guests. And I was not sure if there were bedbugs or other insects there, so I didn’t sleep all night, just sat on a chair and took a nap. Before I discover it, I had my suitcase unpacked and put things on bed, and also sitting on the bed. I'm wondering if it's bedbugs, I maybe infested.
• So depressed that was my Birthday night! I paid for it but not able to get a normal accommodation, I was scared for one night, and my travel plan on next day also destroyed cause I had to wait the staff start working at 10am and told about this. Unfortunately, the staff did not take even a glance at the mattress and not feeling surprise about it. It seems normal to them. And then another staff came to make an apology, saying several times "so sorry", but did not feel...
