Samurise was a nice experience. It’s a 5 minute walk from Kawaguchiko station - where you can see Mt Fuji perfectly on a clear day - it’s clean and tidy, and I got a very good deal for the New Year on booking.com. The staff are sweet and friendly and speak decent English. You can hire bicycles for a reduced rate as a guest, and the WiFi was excellent. The common area is a traditional Japanese living area with tatami mats, cushions and yukata robes for hire. The beds were comfortable with great bedding, and they all have privacy curtains. ||On the downside, the hostel is actually more of a converted house, and is a different building to the actual Reception which is further away opposite the station - not great if you need the staff for anything (although they do “patrol” twice a day, to check in and see that you’re OK). The house is quite small and the dormitory is one large room, which depending on where they assign you can feel quite cramped. The toilets are small and the one by the main entrance is poor quality. The shower room leads off from the main dorm and is accessed by a thick screen door, and can only be accessed at certain times throughout the day. ||The main drawback I think is the lack of security - there are no lockers, and the house has 3 entrances, 2 of which are never locked(!). Japan is a safe country where thefts are an anomaly, but this is a dorm aimed at international tourists... go figure. Lol.||All in all I would recommend this place for its location and price. A...

Read moreEven though it is said to be near Kawaguchiko train station, it is behind the station but you cannot walk straight across because the path is closed and there is a fence. You have to walk around for another 300 meters. And if you have a lot of luggage, heavy stuff, arrive before 3 pm, you cannot check in. And there are no people at the front desk and it is very narrow. If you want to leave your stuff, you have to be careful. Plus, I don't know if there are many people at that time. The area is really narrow. When checking in, you have to fill in all your passport information yourself. People who are tired have to fumble and fill it out. Plus, the reservation number you enter is not returned. The reference number is not found. You have to type your own name. You have to edit it 3-4 ways. Waste more time. Contact the staff. They only reply to chat. You have to waste time at the font where there are shared shoes placed. It smells musty. The price is around 2,500-4,000 per night.
After checking in, you will get the code. The room is clean. There are plugs, Wi-Fi, air purifier. But the next room can hear everything. And the next room can talk loudly. There are 2 shared bathrooms. You can hear it all the way to the room. Overall, it is not very convenient for people who are tired from traveling. The price is almost the same as a normal hotel. Please think carefully...
