Hotel Shikinoyakata Hakone-Ashinoko — Hotel in Hakone

This was one of the best hotel experiences we’ve ever had! It is our first time in Japan and was our first time visiting a Ryokan style hotel and this far exceeded our expectations. The staff are incredible - they were so welcoming and kind. The meals were absolutely delicious and so beautifully presented, definitely some of the best food we’ve had on our trip overall. The private onsen on our balcony was so relaxing and had a lovely view of the mountainside greenery and Lake Ashi. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms are clean and well designed, they’ve thought of everything. We used the shuttle service provided by the hotel (reserve this in advance of your stay if you want to use it as there are only a few seats in the van) to and from Odawara station which made our arrival and departure completely stress free. My husband and I stayed here one night on our 18 day honeymoon in Japan. This hotel was hands down our favorite place we stayed! The rooms were tidy and spacious. The view was so gorgeous and private onsen clean and hot. The communal onsen was the spotless and with so few people it was almost private as well. They had a cold plunge in both the men and women's sides. Other onsens we used had children playing and we're crowded so this one was a relaxing retreat. To top it off, their dinner was so delicious! We thought we would stay at two different hotels to see more parts of Hakone but our biggest regret is not staying at Shikinoyakata longer. We don't speak Japanese but the staff took their time to explain everything to us in English. If we ever make it back to Hakone we will definitely stay again and longer. I stayed at this hotel with my wife and was supremely impressed with all aspects of the hotel. The hotel, service, rooms, onsens and food were absolutely 5 Star level. Great location, close to Lake Ashi. Room was perfect with a private onsen and amazing view of the area, mountains and Lake Ashi. Breakfast and dinner meals were some of the best we ever had! Their service and attention is top notch! I wish I got her name but there was a lovely staff who spoke great English. She was very helpful and we enjoyed conversing with her.
