It was a nightmare to stay in this hotel. This has been the worst hotel experience of my life, and it will stay with me forever. They failed to meet the basic requirement of providing a clean room to their guests, not just once, but twice. Even when we voiced our concerns, we did not feel a genuine apology from either the frontline staff or the management team. The same cleanliness issues persisted even after changing rooms. Please refer to the attached photos.||If your height is over 180cm, please consider choosing another hotel, as the ceilings and ventilating fan in this hotel may be too low for comfort. Additionally, if the hotel does not clean the ventilating fan properly, you may find your hair covered in dust. Furthermore, when seated on the toilet, your knees may come into contact with the toilet door.||We do not feel any respect from the hotel side in handling the complaint, especially when the same thing happened again. The management team never showed up to apologize to us. They just sent some frontline staff to handle it. Therefore, this is the reason why the frontline staff does not meet the normal standards.||I believe no one would be happy to stay in a dirty room and have to spend extra time cleaning and dealing with the hotel. It seems evident that there is a problem with the management, leading to poor customer service and housekeeping performance. This ultimately results in experiences like the one we endured. I believe that the management team should take more responsibility and refrain from burdening the frontline staff with handling such issues. Instead, they should offer sincere apologies to guests.||Initially, they only offered one day of free breakfast and a late check-out, which only served to further aggravate us as it felt like they were not treating us as valued customers. They also failed to address how to clean my damaged bag. Consequently, I made a reasonable request for a full refund for the first and second nights of our stay, considering the dirty room, the need to perform their cleaning duties, the damage to my bag, and the time spent dealing with these issues, as well as waiting for approval from the management team.||For the remainder of our stay, we were still charged the full price, which I find absurd given the circumstances. It is unacceptable that we had to fight for a refund, and even then, they were only willing to refund half of the price for the first and second nights. I fear that similar issues may arise for other guests in this hotel.||I hope you enjoy your trip to Japan with a better hotel choice. It was February, 2019, when I stopped in this hotel. The hotel is notable for excellent location (about 8-10 minutes of slow walking from Kyoto station) and an onsen at the top floor. The staff at the reception was traditionally affable and spoke absolutely understandable English so my check in / check out procedures went absolutely flawless.||||The first impression matched my expectations pretty well. Small single bed room typical for 3* Japanese hotels with full set of essential accessories and standard bathroom, quite a big TV-set with limited free local channels and rather narrow writing-table where I could barely accommodate my small laptop. The hotel itself looked not very new but interiors and rooms wasn't worn out at all. WiFi service worked well everywhere in the hotel, I experienced no problems accessing the Internet.||||Now about some not numerous though a bit annoying problems that I experienced. The soundproof was rather average if not bad. I could hear not only the noise coming from the corridor but also from the neighbouring room right through the wall. Thanks God my neighbours were quiet enough. :-) Despite announced, the cleaning was taking place not between 11am - 1pm, it started much earlier.||||Another trouble I stumbled upon was high humidity and the condensate coming out on the wall faced out the street. It was due to poor thermo-insulation, I guess, and it's not a big problem unless you place your things near the wall. Be warned if you travel in winter.||||And last little trouble to be meant was slightly forgetful room staff. They once forgot to leave me a complimentary bottle of water. :-)||||All in all the hotel was not bad for his value. If you are not searching for an extra comfort and don't want to spend much money - you have my...

APA brand hotels are known to provide very systematic service. Some may not like it, but people traveling in business may like their effective and quick service such as online check-in, express check-out, magnetic signs to attach on a door to show "do not disturb", "make a bed". I think it may be their unique service to provide a large vinyl bag, which you can cover to avoid smokes while you escape from a fire. Remember that you can use it in an unlikely event of fire. ---- APA hotels & resorts is one of the most famous Japanese business hotel brands. Most of their hotels seem to locate conveniently close to train stations, and "APA Hotel Kyoto Station Horikawa-dori" is no exception. It is conveniently located within 3-5 minutes from Kyoto station, the entrance of the famous historic city. But you need to notice there are at least four APA brand hotels near Kyoto station. And on the way to "APA Hotel Kyoto Station Horikawa-dori" from Kyoto station, there is another APA brand hotel, which made me a little confused. I seriously recommend you use a mobile navigation service, unless you can read signs in Japanese quite easily. Like other hotels of the brand, the room was not large, but clean, well-organized, and very comfortable, and I took a quite good night rest there. If you are with family for vacation, I might say differently. But if you are in business and what you need is comfortable good night rest, I believe this hotel can definitely be a candidate.

My husband and I had a very bad experience with APA Hotel 〈Kyotoeki Horikawadori〉 due to a dirty room and poor customer service. We are extremely upset and disappointed. We checked in on March 26, 2024, around 6:30 pm, and paid 151,000 yen for 7 nights for a super tiny room where we could not fully open our 28-inch suitcases and had to squeeze into the toilet. Please see the photos below. We found that our backpack was very dirty, and it was from their chair. We tried to speak with the staff at reception, and they attempted to change our room to the same type but found it fully booked. Therefore, I made a reasonable request for a twin bed room because this was not our fault. We spent 15 minutes waiting while they checked with their manager, which delayed our original itinerary. However, they refused and asked us to pack our stuff and luggage to keep in the lobby if we wanted to change rooms, which made us even angrier. We declined, as we were rushing for our travel plans and needed extra time to tidy up the room since it was too tiny. They said they would try to arrange another room by 6 pm on March 27, 2024. We hope we do not need to spend the entire night dealing with this. This has absolutely ruined my trip in Kyoto.
