We (3 friends) just wanted to have one or two sake in a nice bar. We came in and this looked nice. Sat down at a table in the corner. Then the waiter came with the menu and told us to carefully read the first page. There was a text "COVER CHARGE 1000 YEN PER PERSON"... Of course that is ridiculous for just having a drink or two. The service and all is already calculated in the price of the drinks (which were also steep!!), so what are we paying this extra cover charge for??? It's not that there was a live band or something, then I would have understood. So, we left without a drink and went to "Popolare", a very nice and cozy bar close-by (5 min walk), with NO cover charge! You are chasing away people with this!
UPDATE: The owner wrote in a reaction underneath "The cover charge stands for all the service we provide"... Ahum, we just wanted a table and 3 sake. That's it! Nothing else! Music was not live, but coming from a stereo set, so what more service did you want to give us for the 1000 yen per person? A massage?!?
The "service charge" is already in the overpriced drinks, no need to ask for more. Like I wrote: you chase away your potential customers, and therefore you are missing money, as there are plenty of other bars in the area where NO service charge is asked at entry... But it's only a hotel bar anyway, so I guess you...
Read moreGood english, at least. I asked for a passion fruit based cocktail and they gave me orange juice with soft reminder tones of passion fruit, at a expensive price. Worst is that they pointed out to us 'we are not in a private place for kissing each other'. If i cannot kiss my partner from time to time in the cheek, when we are mainly having a real conversation , I dont want to know anything about this place. Specially whrn they are asking of such high sitting fees of 1000 pp. I know japanese standards, but I trully believe we are not such a sticky couple such as to...
Read moreGorgeous quiet and cozy bar not far from Kyoto Station but away from the hustle and bustle. Extensive selection of spirits both local and international. The bar attendant was very polite and a little reserved but he warmed up after he made us a few cocktails. My first cocktail was one he created for me which I will now call ‘The Jennie’ and it was Kyoto gin with matcha tea liqueur’ - delicious!🍸My negroni was excellent (my standard drink for testing the quality of the bar) - perfectly balanced. My daughter enjoyed her dry martini and a Manhattan with...
