Mizunoha Machiya — Hotel in Kyoto

We stayed for three nights in this fabulous traditional style yet modern house, two upstairs rooms with western style beds and a futon in the ground floor room with tatami mats. The house has been renovated to a very high standard with luxury showers and bathroom, the latter being very popular with our sons. Wifi was fast and very easy to connect to, and we were able to use a Firestick to watch a film after a long day sightseeing. The location is excellent for exploring Kyoto, being only a few minutes walk from a local train station which provides a direct service to Fushimi Inari Taisha, and only about 15 to 20 minutes walk from the popular areas around Hanamikoji Street and Kiyamachi Dori, with a multitude of restaurants and bars to...

Just one step to 5 stars. Perfect: Japanese style bath.

Good: Spaces and atmosphere. Clean and amenities. Location.

Fair: Check out time. (11am would be more friendly)

Needs approvement: Maintenance. Air conditioner at one bed room was really noisy (pumping machine level), Air conditioner at another bed room didn’t work well (not cool at all). Ventilation at one toilet didn’t work. Sensor night light at room was over sensitive and strong. (Just light up the floor softly would be enough)

Fortunately those defects which I experienced could be fixed. Still would love to try next time, and would recommend...

We had a really amazing time at Mizunoha Machiya. The house is massive, beautiful, clean and within walking distance of everywhere we needed to go. Our favorite part was the large bathroom with the private onsen. The window in the bathtub area actually slides open, so you can enjoy a refreshing breeze while overlooking the little garden outside. The staff were also accommodating with shipping our luggage to and from the machiya. We didn’t use this but they will help make dinner reservations and call taxis as well.
