Average is the best I can do. I would have given it only 2 stars but it's my fault for not understanding to what lengths the hotel puts emphasis on being environmentally friendly. That's fine, of course, it's just not for this 70+ year old traveler. ||I don't think any of their rooms are sized for 3 "westerners". I feel safe saying that because we had 3 different rooms. When we booked our trip we decided to start and end in Tokyo and stick with the same hotel instead of switching (the 3rd room is because certain items in the 2nd room weren't working and we were allowed to switch). There are no dressers in the rooms so we were literally living out of our suitcases.||The air conditioning will not activate until you put your room key in a slot by the door. In July's heat, that was very inconvenient, because the room was musty when we first walked in and we had to wait a long time for it to get comfortable. Again, I understand they want to be environmentally friendly, I just wasn't ready for more heat after coming out of the heat.||A free "breakfast" is included with your rate, but it's truly the barest of fares with cereals, breads & some pastries, milk, iced coffee and juices, yogurt and some fruit. The eating area has only 2 tables with about 10 small stools (no chairs) and a bar wall line with about 8 tall stools. ||There isn't a real lobby. Instead, there's an automated check-in/check out area "hosted" by "real" automatons. Just be aware, they move and talk, which can be a little frightening if you're not prepared. If you need to talk to a living being, there is a staff phone available, though it's next to the eating area and not at the front desk.||On the plus side, the staff is very friendly and speak some English, still, it might be helpful to get the Google Translate app on your phone to use in a pinch. Other pluses include free wifi, a laundromat on site (fee), a vacuum seal machine for any oversized souvenirs you might want to bring home (fee), Yamato transport services if you want to forward your luggage to your next hotel, and ample supplies (toothbrushes with toothpaste, wash cloths, razors and robes) available in front of the elevator to take up to your room.||Another big advantage is the hotel's location literally next to a grocery store with 2 big 7/11-type stores within walking distance, all staying open until 11pm, so if you're feeling peckish you can buy an inexpensive treat, heat it up in the hotel's microwave and enjoy it in your room.||I'm sure the austerity of Henn na will satisfy like minded clientele, and as much as I like the staff, I'll look for a different hotel if I visit...
Read moreFirst of all Don’t get fooled! This isn’t a robot hotel and it’s far from even being called futuristic, technological… you name it. NOt TRUE.
Their concept of a “robot hotel” is having to dolls (very similar to adult toy Japanese dolls) standing by the check in desk. They barely tilt the face from one side to another and THAT IS IT. They don’t even make a sound.
We were told by front desk that they don’t do anything else, yes, there is someone always at the front desk. They are at the back office and as soon as you walk in and start talking to the robots (waste of time) they come to the front and help out with check in, yes the machines next to the robots are not even to check in they only work to check out, aka “insert your room card, check out complete”.
The rooms are the size of a match box, ok, many hotels in Tokyo are tiny. Well this hotel takes the prize, mattresses are also the tiniest I have ever had in my life, the thickness of the mattress, for reference are the length of a pinky finger plus half a thumb (pictures for illustration), very uncomfortable.
On top of that the walls are very dirty, we had two rooms and in both rooms the walls were filthy. The rooms work with the card inserted, if you plan on charging any electronic while you are away is not going to happen, the outlets work ONLY with the card inserted.
The toilets are quite small as many other toilets in Tokyo.
Amenities are not provided In the room, they are downstairs and consist of: robe, toothbrush and shave. No coffee, no water bottles, nothing.
There is a vending machine for food to go but everything was sold out.
They have a sort of “cafeteria” downstairs comprised of 3 small tables so if you are not there early for breakfast you will end up standing up, but you are allowed to take the food to your rooms… yay! Like they aren’t small enough to breath now you should take food in there.
They don’t use regular plates or mugs, everything is served in DISPOSABLE plates and cups including hot coffee where two cups are needed in order to not get burned.
For breakfast options are two kinds of frozen fruit (frozen!), youghurt, cereal, milk, sweet bread in plastic bags, water, coffee and tea.
Very disappointed as we thought we would get a Tokyo hype, but no. There were no robots at all and for what you get I considered it high priced.
So I’m giving it 2 stars because the...
Read moreVery easy to check in. This is the first leg of our journey in Japan and we thought that the check in robots were super cool. They are currently dressed up as witches for Halloween which was a nice touch.
We got there earlier than our check in time due to it raining, we were able to sit down inside which helped us a lot.
Check in was very easy and we were able to obtain 2 key cards.
The lifts are very easy to work, with a manga corner on level 2 which was a nice touch as well. On the ground floor there are also items you can take to your room like pajamas, small towels, ear buds etc.
As the other reviews have said, the bed is very hard however I got used to it after a couple of nights and plus you get so tired from travelling around all day it doesn't really matter.
You only get 1 pillow each as well, but again I got used to it. My partner did not and he found it a struggle.
There was a fridge in our room which was great and it fitted a large water in as well.
There are no programmes in English and no English subtitles however we soon found our favourite Japanese channels which we really enjoyed watching. There are instructions on how to attach a chrome cast as well for those wanting different languages.
There is a family mart a couple of minutes away which is handy.
Great location as well.
The breakfast was good, there is bread, pastries, yoghurt, fruit and cereal. Along with hot drinks and cold drinks.
They also do cocktails in the evening which you serve yourself, we didn't have any though but I heard someone say they were nice.
Breakfast time can get a bit packed. We went early the first day where there was no one but the following 2 days were crammed. You will end up sitting with...
