I stayed at Koko Hotel in Asakusa Tawaramachi twice during this trip and the stay could not have been any better.
First, the location has to be the star of the hotel. The location in Tawaramachi along the Ginza subway line makes it really convenient. It is a 1 minute walk to the subway which zips you to Shibuya in 33 minutes. It is also closed to all the attractions in Asakusa. You are 10 min walk to Don Quijote, Kappabashi Kitchen street, and just a little longer to Senso-ji. There are several supermarkets including OK supermarket which allows you to take advantage of the kitchen in the room. Asakusa is a great location with many restaurants and sights without the craziness of Tokyo's other suburbs like Shinjinku and Shibuya.
As it is a residence hotel, you get a lot more room than most other hotels in Tokyo. You get a kitchen and laundry which makes extended stays convenient. It also allows you to layout your luggage as you pack and unpack. The AC works well and is quiet and there are plenty of sockets to power your needs. There appears to be 4 rooms on each floor and I stayed in two different types. Both were comfortable and similarly appointed.
The service provided by the hotel is great. Everyone was friendly and answered all my questions. The interactions I needed were minimal but there were little touches that makes a difference. As an example, helping us enter the door without using the code when our hands were full. In addition, they kept our some of our luggage between our 2 stays which allowed us to travel to other parts of Japan without carrying all of our luggage. They also accept luggage shipments. When we return to the hotel for our 2nd stay, all our luggage were already in our room! In addition, they also have a luggage disposal service for 2000Y which we used when one of our luggage was damaged in transit.
Altogether, Koko provides everything you need for a great stay in Tokyo. I would not hesitate to stay there again and would do so in the future although I worry that it will be harder to book it in the future once this gem...
Read moreStayed here during the last half of our Japan trip. Family of 4 with 2 teenagers. Our room had 2 double beds and a bunk bed. Small kitchen area along with a dining table and washer/dryer combo machine also was in the room.
Pluses: Location was a block away from the popular cookware street, 7 Eleven and subway. There were also a number of places to eat, shop, shrine, etc in the neighborhood.
Beds were comfortable and having the combo washer/dryer made it easier to do laundry.
Amenities like coffee, toothbrushes, filtered water, etc. in the lobby area, slippers and robes provided. Kitchen is stocked with plates, dish soap, hot water boiler, stove, toaster oven, microwave, fridge/freezer.
They also were able to receive and store our shipped luggage’s no problem.
Building felt secure with a combo to get past the lobby needed.
Lots of plugs and outlets.
Modern and clean. Staff was friendly.
Downside for us: Room was a little small with the large table in the middle so we had to rearranged it so we could move around.
The room lacks storage - there are 2 drawers on the bunk bed and a small night stand with 2 drawers plus 1 hanging rod and a shelf above it. There was no closet so we needed to be very smart about what we took out of luggages and having the luggages out made the room smaller.
The hallway light was tricky and we didn’t figure out how to turn on/off.
AC cooled the room but it was hard to turn on/off and it dripped...
Read moreStayed here for 5 nights in the Superior Japanese room. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was modern, spacious and clean. Kitchen was well equipped with a large fridge/freezer. It also has a microwave and I believe a toaster. It has a separate toilet and shower with washer/dryer combo which takes around 4 hours per load. Tatami room was wonderful for extra space. Beds and futon were comfy. We did ask for extra pillows since they only provide one pillow per guest. Cleaning is on the 4th day, but you can request towels everyday. View on the 8th floor was wonderful as you can see the Skytree Tower. Metro and bus stops are nearby. Kappabashi Street, where they sell kitchen items, is a block away. Senso-ji Temple is about a about a 10-minute walk. There's free coffee in the lobby and a vending machine where you can get water and drinks. There's a bunch of restaurants in the area and a 7-eleven just steps away. Only thing is that the AC has a lighted number at night and it's bright. I guess I could've put a piece of paper on top so it's not so bright at night. Also, in the morning, the sunlight goes through the holes of the blinds and it wakes you up. If you are sensitive with the light or brightness, I suggest bringing a sleeping mask so it doesn't interfere with your sleep. Other than that, it is a wonderful hotel. I'd stay here again...
