Had a great time in this place! Seems to attract really good people, both local travelers from other prefectures and tourists flying from overseas, so conversations in the lounge with random people were pretty memorable.
Not centrally located in Asakusa but very near train stations (Tawaramachi via Ginza Line), so it's easy to access but initially a challenge to find--just make sure to have Google Maps. Not all staff were warm greeters, so a special shoutout to Yoshi who was chipper and easy to talk to, consistently with a smile on his face :) The shared spaces are clean, especially the toilets/bathrooms. Not the first time I've been in a hostel type accommodation, and this has been the easiest stay for me considering I never had to wait for a bath/toilet to free up, and never felt the need to tiptoe around the spaces because everything was consistently cleaned.
Would echo one review here that said that there's no space for luggage access, which made me bring my stuff into my cube/bunk for easier access during my stay. In packing my stuff prior to departure, I had to bring my luggage, the stuff I bought and the things I needed to repack up the balcony/lounge and do my packing there, (I mean, I wouldn't complain because it was a nice area hehe) just to have enough space to move stuff around.
Things of note: 1 towel can be offered for free along with other items you can choose from as a 'free item' during your stay (ie toothbrush/toothpaste, detergent, water) or else, you pay a small amount for it Filtered water from the tap is available from the lounge, so best that you have your own tumbler or bottle You can buy food from the grocery/konbini and leave your food in the fridge as long as it's labeled with your cube number Pelican (the bakery locals and tourists line up for) is just around the corner! Take advantage of this :) If you're the type of take your time in walking and going around, the Sensoji temple is a 15-20 min walk and you can extend your walk to the Sumida River Tokyo Skytree. Nice, steady area. Also take advantage of the ear plugs given for free, as making even the tiniest noise (ie hitting your cube's wooden walls) can be amplified because of the material.
Would definitely choose this place again when I visit Tokyo as I feel like I've gotten my money's worth for the overall experience (vicinity/access/cleanliness/comfort/etc). The balcony also has a nice view of Tokyo Skytree--the claims...
Read moreHad a really great stay in this hostel/capsule hotel. I booked a bunk in a 8-person all-female dorm. Check in was friendly and convenient, the front desk staff speaks fluent English and all documentation/rules are in English. The check in desk is manned from 7AM to 11PM. The bunk was private with a enclosed half wall and drape, was appropriately-sized (about 5.5ft long and plenty of room to roll around) and had a mirror, built-in wall lamp, a long shelf and two hangers. Top bunk uses a sturdy ladder to climb up. No talking in the room and my roommates and I all treated each other like we were all invisible, completely private and unintrusive. I’m a light sleeper, so I used earplugs to block out any noises of rustling paper, coughing, light snoring and it was perfect.
There is a shared bathroom on each floor with three fully private stalls and two sinks, as well as eight fully enclosed shower rooms on the basement floor. There are two washer/dryers in the basement, 300 yen to wash, 100yen for 30 min of dryer. A single pod of detergent is 100yen at the front desk. Towels are also rented at 200yen for one towel during your stay. There is a small rooftop indoor-outdoor lounge on the 6th floor with a microwave, shared fridge and plenty of tables and seating.
The entire facility was very clean and I saw people cleaning all public spaces, showers, bathrooms on a daily basis. On the day of check out, they will storage luggage for you free of charge as long as you wish...
Read morePros: Its location is awesome as this hotel has got two subway station (two different line) nearby and it is just a 5 minutes walking distance. Most importantly is the direct subway to the Haneda airport, you don't even have to get off the subway to get to the airport. Sensoji temple is also nearby and is walkable. My family of 6 stayed in the family room with 6 beds, 3 bunk beds, meaning there is no other guest in our room. Overall their bunk bed's quality is good and comfy. Toilet is located on every floor which is important for my parents. Unfortunately, shower area is only located in the basement. But I would rather consider this as a plus as it minimizes noise. Free luggage storage is available after checkout. Overall a very good value for money stay that I can find in Tokyo area and it was indeed tourist-friendly.
Cons: The pantry area might be a little bit small. It gets crowded during night time as there will be a couple of people gather there to chit-chat. The shower area is only located in the basement rather than on every floor. No water dispenser machine is provided but you can use the water filter attached to the sink tap to get...
