Our stay at this hotel was extremely disappointing. Upon checking in and entering our room, we immediately noticed a bandaid and other bits of paper garbage on the floor — was clear that the room hadn’t been properly vacuumed. The walls were stained with various splatters, and the air vents filled to the brim with dust The bathroom was even worse — the shower was covered in mildew, the caulking had black mold and staining, and the shower pedestal was so worn and dirty that it should have been replaced ions ago.
We immediately went to the lobby to express our concerns and requested a room change. The staff didn’t seem surprised or concerned but quickly assigned us a new room. Unfortunately, the second room was in the same condition, minus the garbage on the floor. It became clear that the poor cleanliness and upkeep were not isolated to one room, but part of a larger issue with hotel maintenance and cleanliness.
The massage chair in the room was tiny and unusable due to the obvious stains, especially on the fabric - so much yellowing. The towels were no better - some had strange small stains and on one occasion, I even found a hair. They also had a musky, unpleasant odor, making it impossible to feel clean even after showering.
While we understand that this is a budget-friendly hotel, that does not excuse such poor cleanliness. After returning from our trip, we contacted the hotel to provide feedback and requested compensation for our disappointing experience, as the rooms were far from what had been advertised. The manager, Iwasaki, was dismissive and refused to offer any refund, stating that since we stayed there, no compensation would be given. It’s unreasonable to expect guests, especially tourists unfamiliar with the area, to abandon their reservation and deal with the stress of finding new accommodation at the last minute.
Even more frustrating is that they acknowledged that our concerns and room change was documented while we stayed there, yet still refused compensation. Do not book here. Wish we paid more attention to the numerous other reviews citing uncleanliness.
One positive though is how convenient the location is to the station - literally 2 steps away and there are multiple convenience stores within the...
Read moreI've been meaning to write a review. I am ashamed to say that I am almost 5 months late to do this, but I have been back to Japan since and I couldn't forget because, of all of my trips there so far, I had my best experience with the Japanese people at this hotel. I stayed at this REMM in kyobashi for my first trip to Tokyo and my trip was rather unexpected. I didn't have much time to prepare. I didn't know how the trains worked. I didn't have time to learn any of the language. I just had to show up and figure it out when I got there. So I relied on google translate to communicate. The people at this hotel went out of their way to help me. There is one girl worker specifically that spent the time to help me understand the trains, and I had to catch the first Narita Express in the morning or I would miss my flight to Manilla. I was so nervous I thought about just sleeping at Tokyo Station that night. haha But thanks to that one girl who took the extra time, I made my flight. And that was a very important flight. So thank you. And to everyone else at the REMM, thank you. You all gave me the best experience in Tokyo. And I will be back.
I also want to say, the location of the hotel is really ideal. It is walking distance from Tokyo Station, and if you are a white guy like me who likes German food and beer, there is a German place at the train station entrance just across the street that has the Wiehenstephaner on tap, and oh my goodness. That was my first time having that on tap. Top 3 beers I have ever had.
The rooms are great. Nice massage chairs too, even if you are tall like myself. Takes a bit to figure out if you can't translate, but we got it figured out. 7/11's and other restaurants right there. It's really a great spot but more business in the area than tourism. But I kind of enjoyed that. It was more peaceful in a way and Shibuya isn't far away.
I am looking forward to my next trip there. Next time I will hope to have the privelege to stay at...
Read moreWe stayed at this hotel during our recent trip to Tokyo and unfortunately had a deeply disappointing experience. Over the course of our stay, we had the equivalent of €500 (about ¥85,000) stolen from our hotel room, on several occasions. We reported the theft to the police, who were kind and did their best to help us. However, the hotel management showed no empathy, offered no support, no apology, and most shockingly — the feeling that they didn’t believe us.
We are fully aware that we should have used the in-room safe to store our cash. In hindsight, that was a mistake. But we’ve traveled extensively around the world, and never before has something like this happened to us — not once. And to have this happen in Japan, a country we considered one of the safest in the world, made it all the more unsettling. What hurt the most was not just the theft, but the cold and dismissive way the hotel handled it. We weren’t asking for money back — just some basic acknowledgment and professionalism, which we never received.
To be completely fair and help future travelers make informed decisions, here are the pros and cons of our stay, excluding the incident:
Pros:
Extremely well-located, perfect access to public transport, restaurants, and key neighborhoods. This was by far the biggest strength of the hotel.
Cons:
Rooms are quite small (which is common in Tokyo, but still worth noting).
The bed and pillows were uncomfortable, leading to poor sleep.
Lack of ventilation: the room quickly felt stuffy and humid, with a persistent musty smell. It was bearable, but not ideal.
We're not writing this review to complain or seek pity — we’re sharing our experience to warn fellow travelers. The hotel’s lack of responsibility, empathy, and basic professionalism was the most disappointing part of our stay.
We sincerely hope no one else has to go through...
