My husband and I very much enjoyed our 8 night stay at Section L Yushima while on our honeymoon in Japan. The apartment-style room was clean and comfortable, the front desk staff was always very friendly and happy to answer questions, and the location was fantastic!
The room: We stayed in one of the bigger rooms that could house up to 4 guests. It was on the 9th floor of the building; there were two other rooms on our floor on the opposite side of the elevator. Our room included two large single beds pushed together to make a double and two couches that could be converted into beds. The beds were firm but comfortable. The room also had a combination washer/dryer with complementary laundry detergent (that didn't seem to bother my sensitive skin!), a kitchenette with everything you need, and a good sized shower and bathroom with great water pressure and complementary shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Section L also provided a QR code that led to a PDF of translated instructions for all electronics in the room--this helped us with the washer/dryer! The TV also had a Youtube and Japanese Netflix app that we used, but we wish there was a Chromecast option! Our only other complaint was the motion-tracking light in the entryway/kitchen—if one of us had to use the bathroom in the middle of the night, we’d both be blinded by the light.
Lobby/Staff: My husband and I showed up a few hours before our scheduled 3pm check-in time to see if we could store our luggage. (As an aside, I was having some stomach issues and was extremely thankful there was a bathroom available in the lobby!!) The staff were happy to store our luggage until check-in and even placed our luggage into our room for us! When we returned to check-in, the process was very simple and involved using an iPad to answer a few questions and agree to the hotel rules. We were provided a door code for our room and a door code for entering the lobby after hours. Also, the staff all spoke fluent English, if that is a concern for you :)
The location: I can’t say enough good things about where this Section L is located. In terms of public transportation, it is mere steps away from Yushima station which serves the Chiyoda subway line, a 5 minute walk from Ueno-Hirokoji station which serves the Ginza subway line, and a 7 minute walk from the Okachimachi JR station. As this was our last accommodation before leaving Japan, we also opted to walk from Section L Yushima (with all of our suitcases) to the Keisei Ueno Station so that we could ride the Skyliner to Narita. Otherwise, this Section L is located right between Akihabara and Ueno, two fantastic districts with lots of fun things to see and do!
Overall, we highly recommend Section L Yushima and look forward to staying at this hotel again during our future...
Read moreYes. This is your answer to book this place for your holiday! My family of 4 stayed here. We have a 6yr old and a 4yr old who walked with us everywhere from this hotel. It is surrounded by accessible train stations, and easily walkable tourist hot spot area’s like Ueno Park, Ueno Zoo, Ameyoko Shopping Street and the list goes on. These places range from a 3min to 12min walk which is great if you’re staying at the hotel.
The Hotel had very clean rooms! The showers and toilets were amazing too as the shower had its own tub and water heater. We had a small kitchen, and a washer in our room which came in so handy due to the humid weather - we had to wash our clothes daily.
The rooms provided the dishwashing liquid and also laundry liquid. We had room slippers and bathroom amenities such as shampoo, soap, and conditioner. We has 4 large suit cases with us. There is space under the beds where you can slide them under, which saves space in the room. They also had a clothes rack where you can unpack all your clothes and drawers for your clothes under the beds.
They had a microwave and a fridge too!
The area the Hotel is in is also a quiet area. The louder area’s are closer to the Main Ueno Station.
There is a Family mart across the road and if you need a late night snack or drinks, you wont be walking far! We also never felt unsafe walking home to this hotel. Our kids also enjoyed the stay here. They had an elevator and stairs for easy access to the top level! On random nights the hotel staff also offered free juices or candy. There is a coffee and tea station at reception too.
The staff at reception were also amazing. There was always someone at reception to address any concerns. And we were welcomed back everyday with a smile.

Read moreLoved our stay here! Very good option for people who need a little more space than the average hotel room in Japan. Having a small kitchen, washer/dryer, couch, and small dining table was great for our stay of over two weeks. Neighborhood was nice and quiet, and location is very close to metro, FamilyMart Ippudo, etc. Close to Akihabara without the crowds.
Staff spoke perfect English, for those who aren't fluent in Japanese. They were extremely knowledgeable about the area and gave great restaurant recommendations.
Here are the only (very small) downsides: The Chiyoda line, which runs through Yushima station, doesn't stop in Tokyo Station proper. The walk underground from Otemachi/Nijubashimae to Tokyo Station can be a little confusing, so be prepared.
The water pressure for the shower was a little weak. When we go to Japan we take advantage of the nice, big bathtubs, so this wasn't a big issue for us.
We were on a lower floor, and our room didn't get much sunlight. This added to normal jetlag created some issues for our sleep schedule.
I didn't knock any stars off for the downsides, because for us, the good definitely outweighed these minor...
