We stayed in the family room which was decently spacious. It had a closet with a few hangers, something that more expensive hotels we had stayed in did not have. The beds are a bit creaky and old and the toilette seat doesn’t get warm, but those are just little things we got spoiled with in other places on this trip. The lounge area upstairs is nice with a an upper area with low tables and cushions with a tv. The other side has a table and fridge area with a hot water machine, free tea and miso soup packets. ||The ONE thing I did not appreciate about this place was the scary, old, tiny elevator! When I saw it I refused to take it so I took the stairs. Since the hostel area is located only from the 4th floor and up they have a sign and red traffic cone placed before the stairs going down requesting guests to use the elevator and stairs only in an emergency because the property does not belong to them on the lower floors. There is even a big traditional Japanese paper screen hanging from the wall down, essentiall “blocking” (discouraging) people from using the stairs. I just ignored these signs and only used the stairs to go up and down to our room. I never even saw anyone or noticed any businesses open on the other floors so I don’t understand what the big deal is about them not wanting hostel guests to use th stairs. For someone who is afraid of getting stuck in an old, small elevator they really need to take that screen away. Other than that I have...
Read moreI've always stayed here most of the time I visit Tokyo.||||The hotel is not too large but comfortable to stay and it's located just about 10-15 minutes walk from Ueno Keisei Skyliner station which connects direct to Narita Airport. It is also easy to walk to many interesting places such as Ueno Park where the beautiful cherry blossoms are, shrine, museum. There're Ameyoko market where you can do shopping for fresh fruits, shoes, clothings, cosmetics, electronics, and pretty much everything you need to buy from Japan. All of these is just a few minutes walk from hotel.||||The hotel provides many of the basic amenities as you can expect from Japanese hotel and service but with an extra service that you can select additional kinds of pillows to be used in the room without extra charge.||||An important thing for me which I always give much concern when selecting hotels is the water pressure of the shower so this speed up shower time and makes it enjoyable. This hotel will give you pleasant time in the shower.||||However, the room is very small that I have to rearrange things in the room so that I can open two luggages at the same time. I know that most of the standard hotels in Tokyo are always like this so no complain.||||The WiFi is free with...
Read moreThis is the second time we booked this hotel. Our first was in 2017. They had some minor renovations since we last stayed.
We booked the “eco-friendly” stay via Agoda, which means that they’ll only clean every 3 days; however, during our 9 days and 8 nights of stay, they only cleaned once. We were provided everyday with clean towels, pajamas, and basic toiletries and tea.
The room that we stayed on was definitely smaller than in 2017 but the toilet was updated with the standard Toto bathroom (which I also saw in Best Western Hotel in Osaka). I think they added a new wing in the hotel. As far as I can remember, there were no rooms on the side of the elevator before.
PROs: -price (cheapest that I can book during Cherry Blossoms) -location (near Ueno Park, Ameyoko Market, and Akihabara) -free luggage stay -free umbrella rental -around 10-minute walk from train and bus stations
CONs: -small bed ( I think it was only double-size bed) -cleaning schedule was not met like in the fine print in Agoda. I only knew about it when we were checking in. -early check out (11am) but they accept luggage stay
Overall, I might book again here due to its location and price but definitely a room with...
