Wave View Hotel — Hotel in Borneo

While there was not much info on Semporna online before my visit (someone referred to it as a "cowboy town" although it is much rougher than that), the Wave View Hotel seemed like my best bet. ||There were no reviews on TripAdvisor at the time, so booking was a bit of a risk. Very happy I booked here, as it seemed like the most modern, clean option (and I am not squeemish AT ALL). Semporna is very small, and the area you want to be in is practically microscopic, and this hotel is perfectly located. ||The best surprise is that Speedy Dive is located in the lobby and I could not have been happier with their service, see my review for them. Plus you leave and are dropped back off from there for your snorkel/dive excursions (You will see more if you snorkel), could not be more convenient!! The room was clean but did smell of smoke, I would say that 90% of the tourists that visit Semporna are Chinese so this didn't surprise me and I cant fault the hotel. Rooms are tiny but again, to be expected. Breakfast was not good, so don't rely on it just a heads up. Those things considered I would stay there again, and the dive shop attached is such...

Would not recommend this hotel. The staff ignores emails prior to the stay. They also don't greet or even smile at you when you enter/exit the hotel. Pillows are extremely high and hard, and coupled with the hard mattress, we had the worst sleep of our entire vacation. We asked for some extra towels to use as pillow instead and was told we can only get two. It's like they think we were going to steal their towels. All the bed sheets and towels were also stained with many stains. You also have to pay 100 ringit deposit in cash and they will go physically check the room when you check out to make sure you didn't steal or break anything. Hotel has too many rules to follow. Shower pressure was extremely weak and probably the worst I've had in a hotel. The room also smelled of sewage. Breakfast variety was lame, almost the same food every two days. This was just a terrible terrible...
