Ocean Inn — Hotel in Borneo

Upon arrival at the airport, things just went downhill. My wife had booked a ride from Ocean Inn from the airport to their hotel prior to our arrival. Our ride never showed up even after my wife confirmed with the hotel staff. Called them and not one response after several calls. Great way to confirm everything and then leave your customers high and dry. We ended getting our own ride. ||Ocean Inn hotel is situated in a what I would consider a more or less slum area. I saw multiple locals finish their drinks and then tossed their trash over into the sea when there’s garbage cans just a few feet from them. There’s a lot of garbage sunken and floating in the water everywhere. Countless rats scurrying on the ground and roofs in broad daylight. The area reeks of sewage. ||When we checked in, the gal in the front didn’t like her job. No greetings. No smiles. No friendly service. Not sure if it’s a cultural thing that I’m misunderstanding. I felt like she didn’t want to help us. Never did. ||The entrance of the front desk had an overwhelming smell of mothball. In our room, my wife found strands of hair between the sheets and blanket. The room smelled mildewy. The restroom smelled like a heavily used public restroom. The shower pressure trickled. I just don’t know how some of these reviewers gave this place a 3-5 stars. Stayed here for island hopping. Opted for sea view with balcony room. Generally, the room and toilet are clean. However, we find that the basin are slightly clogged.

Was super relieved to find a retractable clothes hanger at the balcony area. It comes in handy from all the snorkelling activities during island hopping. We get to wash and air dry our swimming attires.

The balcony is spacious. We get to chill and hang out at the balcony which overlook the sea and Dragon Inn. The water traffic is heavy during the day as the public jetty is located just around the corner. Plus point, we get to watch many types of boats cruising through.

Seafood restaurants, Borneo Rock Cafe, 7-11 convenience store, Watsons and Guardian are all located within 5 mins walk from the hotel. The only down side to Semporna town is alcohol is hard to come by. You can only purchase beers from the seafood restaurants and Bataras Hypermarket. Нам нужен был отель для того, чтобы переночевать в Семпорне после пребывания на Мабуле. Конкретно хотелось чистый номер с видом на море, точнее на Драгон Инн. ||||Расположение. Прекрасное (насколько в принципе может быть прекрасным что бы то ни было в Семпорне). Малюсенький отельчик стоит на местной «набережной» в ряду таких же отельчиков, однако входы в них с грязной «задней улицы». Нижние этажи заняты выходящими на набережную кафе. До jetty несколько минут ходьбы, до офисов многочисленных дайвцентров ещё ближе. Также поблизости есть «супермаркет» (ассортимент не радует, но для Семпорны это супермаркет и народу там полно) и очаровательный рынок. На рынке всё весьма «аутентично»: колоритные бабушки, весёлые «разделыватели» рыбы, вонь от рыбьих внутренностей, сваленных неподалёку, крысы пробегающие между прилавками…|| ||Сервис. Вся инфраструктура отеля состоит из маленькой комнатки со стойкой регистрации и диванчиком. Мы появились в отеле в 11-30, номер был не готов. Однако, когда через полчаса мы вернулись с целью оставить покупки, оказалось что уже можно заселяться. Мы попросили заказать нам на утро такси в аэропорт. Портье ответил, что это будет стоить 100 рингит. Мы сказали: Ок. Тем не менее, парень ещё 2 раза переспросил, согласны мы. Сильно переплатили? По дороге в Семпорну мы заказывали трансфер в дайвцентре, платили по 45 с человека (в минибасе была ещё 1 девочка кроме нас).|| ||Размещение. Мне понравился наш номер Sea View Queen. Он крошечный (стандарт по сути), но чистый и симпатичный (явно оформлялся неслучайным образом – дизайн продумывали). В наличии стандартные опции (кондиционер, горячая вода, телевизор, вай-фай, чайник и пр.), но НЕТ ХОЛОДИЛЬНИКА (ставите кондиционер на 15 градусов, и маленький номер становиться большим холодильником). А балкончик действительно очень мил (как на фото); правда, запашок от воды чувствуется, но некритично. Днём жарко, а вечером мне было приятно там посидеть.||||Под балконом - популярное «сифуд» кафе, круглые столы которого по вечерам полностью заполняются говорливыми китайскими и малайскими туристами. Но всё заканчивается довольно рано. Набережная пустеет и можно, сидя на зелёном кресле-мешке, наслаждаться покоем тихой ночи, наблюдая за игрой огоньков на «ароматных» водах моря Сулу (это отражается свет фонарей у свайных бунгало отеля...
