We have just returned from a 5 night stay at the Hotel Stripes.||Location|We loved that the hotel was away from the main areas of Bukit Bintang and KLCC yet still close enough to get to either really quickly.|The hotel is an easy short walk from two stations; Medan Tuanku (Monorail) and Dang Wangi (LRT). The monorail is 3 stops from Bukit Bintang and the LRT line will take you to KLCC, Saloma Bridge and KL Central in just a few stops.|If you are going to use the trains frequently as we did, would recommend buying a Touch and Go card from the station. This removes the need to keep buying tokens and allows you to tap in an out really easily.|There are a number of coffee shops and restaurants within the vicinity of the hotel and the Quill Mall 5 minutes walk away has a great food court and a number of shops.||The Staff|The staff at the hotel cannot do enough for you. We were efficiently checked in by Ashik and whenever we returned to the hotel he was there with a friendly greeting and a genuine interest in our day. Our booking was for two rooms and Ashik was very helpful in accommodating my request (made at booking) for the rooms to be next to each other. He also helped with arranging a taxi back to the airport.|The valet/security staff outside were so helpful, offering to order Grabs and shielding us from the rain with umbrellas. The provision of towels to dry us off after getting caught in a thunderstorm was most welcome.|Housekeeping was on point. I love that it didn’t start until 10:00 am which gave us time to get ready and have breakfast without being disturbed. Towels were replenished every day and cleaning was to a high standard. We also had an evening 'door knock to make sure we had everything we needed.|We had a late evening flight and the team were happy to help with storing our bags and offered us use of the shower facilities near the pool bar before we left.||The Rooms|We booked King rooms. Absolutely no complaints. Spacious with a large sofa, table and chair and small coffee table. Complimentary water, tea and coffee and a (chargeable) mini bar/fridge. The mini bar and safe was hidden in a mirrored cupboard. Plenty of wardrobe and drawer space. And complimentary robes and slippers.|As others have said, it is a bit strange that the sink is outside of the bathroom but it was fine for us.|The air conditioning was very much welcome in the KL humidity although we could never get it to the temperature we wanted so it was either on or off!||Breakfast|I really don’t know why previous reviews moan about the breakfast. For us the timing was great (6:30 – 10:30) and the offering was certainly sufficient.|There was a fair selection of pastries, breads (toasts) and condiments, and egg station with a chef cooking fresh omelettes etc. Plus traditional Malaysian dishes and yoghurt, fruit and salads. Only the fussiest of guests would struggle to find something.|Breakfast service was efficient with waiters regularly clearing tables and ensuring guests were seated quickly.||Pool Bar|After a hard day sight seeing our go to was a visit the pool bar for night time drinks. I was surprised at another reviewer comment that the bar is ‘borderline seedy’ as that is absolutely not our experience and we loved the vibe up there; totally relaxed, an amazing view with cool tunes playing in the background.|Saturday night was 2 for 1 cocktails and there was a live DJ.|The pool bar was a perfect way to end our day. The staff up there are so friendly and attentive and welcomed us back every evening. |We had snacks a couple of times; the yakatori is delicious and good value for money. As are the drinks (compared with UK hotel bar prices).||Just two little niggles which prevent me giving five stars. Only 2 of the 3 elevators were working. This meant that we often had a long wait to go down to breakfast or up to the pool bar.|Our rooms were at the front of the hotel and on our first night we were kept awake by exceptionally loud garage/drum and bass music from a nearby bar which continued past 1 am.|I appreciate that the hotel probably has no control over this but if you are sensitive to noise you may want to request a room at the back.||Overall, an excellent stay and I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again or...

Read moreFirst time trying the Marriott YTL stripes hotel. Picked this place because the rates were pretty reasonable and the good reviews here. Though I have give 3 stars, I think its still okay for a 3.5 but not a 4. Location wise public transport will require a walk to the LRT or the Monorail. Food wise quite a lot of options around especially along the new hip area known as the Row. Staff were generally friendly and they greet whenever they see people. I requested for HDMI cable during check in and they sent it to the room directly. Room wise was upgraded to a studio. Not sure what to expect but the stay was not bad. Room was pretty big and nice. A little strange the wash basin is outside of the bathroom seems a bit exposed. Place was really very cold everywhere. The moment you step into the hotel until you get to the room. Even the room was cold when I set the temperature to 25 degrees. I literally had to off the air-conditioner in the day when I was working in the room and only switch it on before sleeping. There's a nice gym, bar and pool at the top floor. Used the gym twice, quite underutilized as I was the only one. But the pool was always crowded and all the sunbeds are occupied. The bar acts as a lounge and I was given free food for the Bonvoy Happy Hour, but there were only 2 items to choose from and a limited selection of non alcoholic drinks. The rooftop definitely has great views. The room doesn't really have great views and also was obstructed by the facade. The breakfast was fine, considered basic and average. I stayed 4 nights but only visited once for breakfast. The service was pretty inconsistent. They came to do the turndown service on the first day and I was impressed. And to my surprise it was only done for a day. Also they didn't come to do housekeeping. I had to inform the counter to call for the housekeeping service or ask the staff as I saw them while they were cleaning other rooms on the same floor. Also there were quite a bit of weird noises throughout the day. Not sure if it was someone slamming the doors but it was loud and it felt like some explosion where there would be like tremors. The best thing of the stay? I have to say its the 1st time I have seen bolsters in a hotel room. Loved it but, the length is probably too short to use it properly. Will I stay again? Probably I will for the price and if am okay to walk a bit for the...
